Clare,

For some unknown reason, I only receive notifications from our website when the photo gallery is updated, and so I have to remember to periodically check in on the message forum. I did see Janie's picture yesterday when I logged in and texted her that I had been scouring my home looking for that package.  I figured the pic of my Mom and Christine would eventually be found as I have a penchant for placing things in curious locations throughout my house, (I once discovered that i had placed potatoes in the refrigerator to "bake" instead of the oven - imagine my surprise when we were all ready for dinner and I opened the oven door to find the rack empty!!)  I actually never even onsidered that I had left my gift behind, but I now remember that as Nancy and I were heading to the doors to leave, I stopped to help take a tablecloth off the folding table in the hallway and must have set the package down at that time.  Anyway, I guess it gives me a great "excuse" to meet Janie for lunch when I go back to pick it up.

I can't beleive this just dawned on me, but has anybody got any contact with Carolyn (Winchester) Drone?

I think they live in Houston. I just emailed her. No idea if she responds to her email. We used to be close for years after school, but completely lost touch until a nice conversation at our 45th.

----------

Update: Houston resident James Drone's phone "mailbox" is full. I'm going to try and reach Dennis.

----------

Second Update: Just spoke with older brother Jim W's wife in Atlanta. Carolyn is safe with Jim's family in Atlanta, but her son has lost his house. Gave my number and hoping Carolyn calls me back - they were just going out. I'll keep you posted.

Got this brief email from Carolyn Winchester just minutes ago.

"We evacuated. In Atlanta staying with my brother (Jim). Thank you for asking."

I imagine she's got a plate full right now. Her sister-in-law said in the phone conversation that the water is about to reach Carolyn's house (when I called a few hours ago).  I would imagine emails couldn't hurt, but maybe be patient with her as to a response.

I should be a bit more complete - in the earlier phone call, her sisiter-in-law said "she is like a shaking leaf right now."

I suggest you be very brief with any emails right now.

(I used the email she has here on the website)

I just got the weirdest private message from Beth Broadhurst claiming some sort of visual impairment or cognitatie skills problem. I think she has confused me with my twin brother's other twin brother Daryl. Could someone close to the Pittsburgh area please look in on her and see if she is snorting some sort of odd substance? After all, she does have a suspicious past. She once accepted a date to the "Dog Cemetery" way out on Steltzer Road with a guy I used to know, and she has reportedly attempted a back flip off of her lawn mower - while she was mowing!  Need I say more?

(and Beth, don't try to deny the dog cemetery thing - we have witnesses)

 David

You did take me on a first date to a dog cemetery as I remember near the airport. We doubled with Carolyn Winchester and  Tom Litzinger. Oh yes It certainly was one of my most memorable high school dates! Probably the #1  of all my lifetime!  Yes it takes talent to brake a leg while pushing a lawn mower and cutting ones grass without doing a back flip. I guess I can be inducted into the class Break a Leg while cutting grass group.

Tim Lavelle. Hope you've mended well.

MM, and anyone else who thinks they might not be seeing or receiving notices, when logged in go to second section on left, Notify Me. If you check all the blocks in 1st column you should get immediate notifications as things are posted. If these are all checked and still not receiving then let me know and I can check into it.

Dave- Thanks for the update on Carolyn's status.  Hope all is well for her in the situation she's found herself in.  Still think of Chuck Capps' house as the Winchester's the few times per year I get back and check the old neighborhood.  I guess Dennis, Carolyn, Jack, Jim, and older sister (Nancy?) have scattered to all points of the compass!  Sounds like all's well with you.  Wish I could have been there for the grade school reunion- hopefully the next one!  Thanks to you,  Janie, Clare, Maggie, Donna, Tim, Mark, Joe, et al, for their continued participation and support of this great forum!

Great idea, Kathy. I think he'd enjoy hearing from different people. At the 50th, he remembered so many names & places but I think it was tiring actually talking through it. And if he doesn't want them, he can just throw them away. There's no expectation of response!!  I believe it's the Arlington Court Nursing & Rehab Center.  Tim? Mary Margaret? Dave?  I know you went to see him.

Also, to Susan. I'm so glad you decided to reconnect. Everyone has some people that you think of now and again and wonder how they are doing in this life even if there's only a slight chance that you will meet again. I  think that's part of the fun of this forum even if one is only participating as a listener and why we've decided we must keep finding more times to celebrate!!

Tommy Litzinger's address is:  The Abbington of Arlington, 1320 Old Henderson Rd., Suite 117, Columbus, Ohio 43220.  Cards are a great idea!!

Kathy and Clare,

I guess cards for Tom Litzinger might be good - but I'm really not sure. It is a difficult situation to explain - and I won't attempt to - and it changes from time to time.

He made it clear to Keith and I last year that that vistors are NOT welcome.

Sorry, I cannot give you more than this. Thank God he has Thomas and Mia in Columbus to be available for him.

Alan,

I think all three Winchester boys are in Atlanta, I assume still because of Quickrete. I know nothing of younger sister (Mary Margaret?) or oldest sister Patty. It was Patty's connection with one of my sisters that first connected Carolyn and Dennis and I. My sister Jeanie had transfered from Lorretto Heights in Denver (hated it, by the way!)  to Marquette in Milwaukee. She and Patty W. had become good friends and the two families met at their graduation. It was the summer of 8th grade graduation and Carolyn and Dennis and I, had the run of the hotel together for the weekend and just hit it off perfectly. That carried over for many years - "Winnie" and I even dated for part of Junior year. I even called her a few times from the Army while I was still in flight school in Texas and Georgia.

Fun fact -- Jeanie and Patty's graduation from Marquette had to be the longest ceremony ever. They invited some famouse Doctor to receive an honorary degree and be the guest speaker. They also invited Bobby Kennedy to receive another honorary degree - but not to be a guest speaker. But he apparantly did not get the word and also spoke. Both ran very long. The service lasted about 5 hours. This one episode in my life caused me to skip my own college gradutation - which I now regret. Just think, I could have walked across the stage with my classmate Condi Rice!  Her dad was a "Dean" and she was a brilliant piano major who switched her major to the "School of International Relations" - and I seem to recall she went on to do okay at something other than music???

Ironically, Charlie Kapps was just telling me that although he and Dennis were close for years (both went to John Carroll), he has lost touch - but, that Jim and/or Jack stop bye every time they are in Columbus to say hello and visit the old house.

I think what Joe M was attemting to say in post #1754 was this:

Dave, It's very late and I cannot spell when I am this tired, but I just wanted to say - although it was fun to be together with Keith, Charlie Kaps, and Al Judy at the "Old Bag", it just isn't all that great withouth the likes of Janie, Clare, Nina, Mary Margaret, Toni, Mary Kay, Julie, and all the rest of those hot chicks.

I get your point Joe.

p.s. the thing that pissed me off so badly about that whole evening was when Al shows up looking a at least 30 years younger than the rest of us. He and Mary Kay are starting to get on my nerves !!!

In my most kind and unoffending way - yeah, right, that'l be the day, right? - I need to disagree with Dave. I'm sure Dave means well. No doubt when we go pay a visit to someone, we all see a slightly different version of that person. In my version, Tom Litzinger is just another one of us but he has had some crap happen to him. Please send him a card, or drop by or even call. If 'visit the sick' is one of the biggies, I don't think there is some reciprocating rule where the sick are required to act especially appreciative.

Different topic. Guys only. In a file marked "No fool like an old fool": my healing process has brought my attention to the value of Netflix. Star Trek Voyageur is about 100 episodes long. I have fallen in love with a character known as "Seven of Nine". She was a Borg. Obviously she wasn't Irish or her name would have been "Seven of Twelve". Gentlemen, take my recommendation: prepare 'mass quantities' of popcorn and find some reason to binge watch this series.

Tim,

If you are still healing in September, I would suggest binge watching the first five seasons of "Longmire" on Netflix. The final season -season 6- starts sometime in September. Great modern day Western about a sheriff who prefers the old ways. Support actors include Lou Diamond Phillips who has some great lines. Beautiful scenery, filmed around Santa Fe NM but is supposed to take place in Wyoming.

Better than "Spin and Marty" ?

(seriosly Jim, my kids told me Longmire was great too)

Timothy Lavelle

Thanks Doc. I'll give Longmire a look. Thought you might push me towards Star Trek Next Generation cause I know you like the series. Hope all the fires and such are out. I go in for xeays and to discuss physical therapy on Sept 14th so we'll see what comes next. I have a walking stick collection that my old man used to make fun of - he always asked me if I was practicing up on being old - so I am hoping they take the crutches and get me using a cane.

If anyone has any other long running series to suggest, I'm all ears.

Two quick notes:

Yesterday was Toni Cardi's 39th birthday - Happy Birthday kiddo!

And today I think Clare (also just 39) is having knee surgery - Best Wishes, and get back on the court soon!

Tim- Longmire is great- 6th and final season to start this month.  "Dexter", "Mad Men", "Breaking Bad", "Bloodline", and "Magic City" were also very good.  "Banshee" pretty good also, but violence and sex almost over the top.  I know, I know- "Get a life, Al"

Dave when you went and visited Tom did you show up unannounced. If yes I can say when one is down like he could be and had no time too get ready. God bless for visiting I'm sure after you left he felt bad but good that you cared enough to stop and say hello.there is nothing like a note or a card. During my time healing I love every card note call cheered my soul. Mary Margaret sent me my favorite, a card you colored. Many hours of fun and thinking of all my friends from watterson. I don't think Tom is into coloring. Send him your thoughts and prayers and call if in town. I wish I had.

Al S. - Thanks buddy. I'll check them all out. Last year we watched "Hell on Wheels". Great.  I would never say 'get a life' to you as I find that age has made me weird...no, even weirder, about some things. I really don't watch much horror anymore though I used to love that stuff as a youngster. I used to laugh at the term "senseless violence" and now it makes me cringe. Gotta go...7 of 9 is waiting!!

Frank Ganley, your words re Tom Litz are very kind and generous. Who wrote them for you?

To everyone: you hear me mess with Frank a lot. He can take it...has more heart than most of us.

Quiz: Which 66'ers last name, when repeated three times is famous from the movies...but not really! Tricky.

Clare....Miss Cream Puffs 2017....I always loved your knees...can't believe there could be anything wrong with them but thank heavens Dave let us all know. Get well soon. Out.

Just one more brief comment on Tommy's situation.  I happen to be acquainted with his daughter, Mia as she is very good friends with my son.  As there has been some concern about his condition,  I decided to call her to see if there would be any problem in sending cards to her Dad.  A couple of weeks ago, I did send to Mia, via a private FB message, all of the information regarding our gathering at Janie's.  Mia told me that she read the invite to Tommy, and he was very happy to know that everyone was trying to get together, and she apologized for not getting back to us to let us know that he would not be able to attend.  Mia asked that I share with all of you some valuable information about his diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia  https://www.lbda.org/content/10-things-you-should-know-about-lbd in the hopes that it may clarify for all of us the very challenging aspects that Lewy Body presents to those afflicted.  Unfortunately, when Dave and Keith went to visit, Tommy was most likely experiencing one of his more difficult periods.  So Mia says to please send cards as you wishsmiley
