Since the forum had shifted to grammar and exclammation points, I thought I would share a "blast from my past" blog post....it is rife with incorrect punctuation!!!!!!!!!!!

MM – speaking of writng styles, I wrote this little self-defecating (or "self-deprecating" I guess is the more correct word) limerick about my own writing style the other day:

There once was a fellow named Mark
Whose humor was riddled with snark
But sadly ham-handed
His gibes never landed
His bite always less than his bark

A quick shout out to Tom McKeon -- Happy Birthday, old-timer!! (Of course, to call Tom an "old-timer" is snarkily inappropriate and self-deprecating since this is also my birthday today, and obviously is why I remember Tom's.)

Oh my, I second Mark's Birthday salute to the great Mr. KcKeon.

Part of his greatness lies in the fact that he is actually so muuuuuch older than me.

Happy Birthday Tom. And Mark.

Mark: Here's that story I wrote about the potter. I know I already posted the story itself but this is how it looks in the magazine, with a pretty cool picture of him and his kiln -- and his dog, which is a nice touch that makes the photo even cooler. Dogs rock. Also note the tongs for getting the still hot pottery out

Just heard the very sad news that Al Morse passed away today. Jodelle called to say Mike Boulware called her. I will post funeral arrangements as soon as we get them but check the Dispatch or our reliable grapevine. I know many of you who are in town will want to attend.

Really sorry to hear about Al Morse's passing.  I do remember him at Watterson although he wasn't in my classes.  I remember his smile and laughter!  Thanks for letting me know and I will do my best to show up for the wake or funeral service.  joe

Sad to hear. One of the good guys in our old crowd.

Funny, but I always think of him in one of my great disappointments in grade school. I posted the story a few years ago, but it was about how he (and his St. Andrews team) ruined the best 8th grade basketball game I ever played. I scored well that day, but had to guard him. He had this weird left handed jump shot from way behind his head that you just could not defend (almost like Bobby Knight's strange jump shot). And he beat us almost single handedly - at the buzzer - while Tom Litzinger and I were trying our best to double-team him. I was so upset I was almost crying as I walked home from the Watterson gym down the Cooke Road hill and up Overbrook to my house.

If Carol is reading this - I hope he is resting in everlasting peace and joy!

WHOOO DEYYYYY?

James Hamilton, M. D.

My condolences go out to Carol and all of Al's family on his passing. Although I was not close to him at BWHS I do recall playing some sports with him.

As a classmate leaves us I think we all feel a loss since we have become more connected in the last decade through this Forum and other electronic means.

RIP, Al.

Jim

congrats lorraine.

rip al morris.

I was going to share a mind-rattling experience involving, believe it or not, classical music. But under the circumstance, and out of respect to the departed, I will save it for another time.

Janie's dishwasher quit working so she called a repairman.  Since she had to go to work the next day, she told the repairman, "I'll leave the key under the mat.  Fix the dishwasher, leave the invoice on the counter, and I'll mail you a check.

Oh, by the way don't worry about my bulldog Spike.  He won't bother you,  But, Whatever you do, do NOT, under ANY circumstances, talk to my parrot!"  "I REPEAT, DO NOT TALK TO MY PARROT!!!"

When the repairman arrived at Janie's apartment the following day, he discovered the biggest, meanest looking bulldog he had ever seen.  But, just as she had said, the dog just lay there on the carpet watching the repairman go about his work.

The parrot, however, drove him nuts the whole time with his incessant yelling, cursing, and name calling.

Finally the repairman couldn't contain himself any longer and yelled, "Shut up, you stupid, ugly bird!"

to which the parrot replied,  "Get him, Spike!'

Whoa!  Easy there Joe.

I'm too old to read that many pages at one time.

Joe,

If I may, another repair man story.

So a guy calls an appliance repair man to fix his dishwasher. In a few minutes, the guy shows up, spends about 30 minutes fixing the dishwasher. As he is leaving, he hands the home owner a bill for $400.00.

Outraged, the home owner confronted the repairman.

"What the heck is this? You were only here 30 minutes and used one small replacement part. I happen to be a lawyer and I only charge $200 an hour. "

The repairman says, "Yup, I know. That's all I ever charged back when I was a lawyer myself."

Joe – I am afraid your geezer aphorisms, for an old geezer like myself, were too painfully true to be overly funny, more often than not, producing only a wry smile contorting into a grimace. However, I have to applaud your joke about the clowns in the office. My wife, who is known for her boisterous laugh, heard me giggling when I read that one, and asked, "What's so funny?" I then read your joke to her, and she let loose with such window-shaking laughter that I too began laughing uncontrollably, which went on for twenty or thirty seconds. A great way to start the day. It made me "happy," but not in a diamond-mining dwarf sort of way, which was another good one. Thanks Joe.

The preceding was brought to you in the hopes that it would calm you before this next post.

First.  Because of Covid and a chance to mitigate the spread to a portion of the California state employees the state allowed, for a two year period that ended on December 31, 2022, that ALL individuals OVER 70 could renew there drivers license for a period of five years either on-line or by snail mail without a written test, EYE test,or driving test.  Certain exceptions did apply, but were very limited - Did you kill anyone, did you have a DUI, etc..  WARNING!!!  I was able to just meet the deadline.  I am not legal to drive until I'm eighty.  WARNING!!!!

Second.  Just a few days ago I was able to complete reservations for the three nights of the drive to Columbus.  To make reservations for Columbus.  Also for a rental car while back East; the rental car allows me to have a vehicle to drive and leaves our vehicle (Ford Expedition) for my wife to do her thing.  Leave California, hopefully by 4:30 A.M. on July 29th and arrive in Columbus on August 1st.  Staying till September13th when we drive back West.

 You've all been forewarned.

Joe

Sorry; I quess I broke the Forum.

While it's broken I thought I would post one interesting item, since everyone LOVES White Castle.

I recently acquired a 1930's Ohio Sales Tax Punch Card; this allowed you to purchase up to a $1.00 without having to pay the Sales Tax on your purchase(s).

Joe
