James Hamilton, M. D.

Fall is rapidly appropaching and that is my favorite time of the year. It certainly is the most photogenic season here in Colorado. This year I shall willingly miss the climax of the aspen tree color change choosing instead to renew old (really old!) acquaintences at our 50th reunion! A year ago from the date of this reunion I was fortunate to be in the Maroon Bells area near Aspen, CO and captured several images of this annual event. The pyramid shaped Maroon Bell peaks are some of the most photographed mountains in the state and, when reflected in the green mossy bottomed Maroon Lake along with the clusters of golden and yellow aspens that populate their surronding hillsides, create a picture that rivals the opening scene from "The Sound of Music". That 1965 movie was popular about the time we were entering our senior year at BWHS. So, I thought this shot of the Bells might help transport us back to those times. Can you hear Julie Andrews in the recesses of your minds? (Or maybe even John Denver?)

Janie,

Janet and I are also looking forward to the reunion activities and seeing you and many former classmates. Hopefully the pictures may help sell a few raffle tickets and bring some money in for "the cause". The images I chose are some which I felt would be appropriate to be hung on the walls in homes or offices.

You and Larry were my inspiration for the raffle idea. I think it will be great!

Bishosp Ambrose Watterson didn't found the Pontifical College Josephinum.  Monsignor Jessing did, but Watterson was bishop of our diocese during those years, so he surely encouraged the founding of the pontifical seminary in our diocese.  My husband and I are on the board of the Friends of the Josepinum.  Clergy Who Cook is one of our annual fundraisers - always a sellout crowd, and Watterson alumni are often seen there. Father Mike Watson, a Watterson alumni, has prepared yummy food for us in past years!  Join the Friends of the Josephinum.  It is a wonderful group of people supporting a great cause!

Janet and I also want to thank Janie, Fred, Mary Clare, Larry and all the others who worked so hard and effectively to create a memorable 50th reunion weekend. The places, food, music, drinks, tours, and most of all the comraderie were outstanding. It was so much fun to reconnect to those with whom we shared a very critical part of our youth and development. Our paths have been varied and we have all made a positive impact on our worlds. BWHS has and always will be a part of our lives.

Mike, Sue, Jim & Janet, thanks for you kind words. I really enjoyed it myself and that's because there were a team of us working on it. Lots of work went into but it was divided up. Lots of others behind the scenes besides those you mentioned that made phone calls and did other things who aren't getting credit like Kathy Wintering, Toni Cardi, Mary Margaret, Nina Osborn and Theresa Zeyen. Fred Clem & Bob Curtin and even a few others like you Mike who were involved in choosing our location. I think Jodelle, Barb Jaquay and Monica Haban. I think I'm forgetting some but truly a group effort. And how about our awesome donors, both raffle items and cash?! And our bidders? And our 50-50 winner Frank Ganley?! A great evening because as Jim said we are a great bunch that we were lucky enough to grow up with.

It was a pleasure!

Janie

I, too, want to add my thanks to all those involved in making this a fabulous reunion. Spent so much time anticipating it and now it's over in an instant! It was great connecting with old friends, seeing people I haven't seen in decades and realizing they're just as great now as they were 50 years ago! The venues were really nice, am very impressed with Our Lady of Victory's community hall. And the food was terrific. But most of all it was the people who made the party.

Thanks to everyone who made it such a successful gathering. Can't wait for the next one!/Julie

What a very very special reunion! Your stellar planning and beautiful execution made it such an incredible two days. The location was perfect, the decorated room lovely and the food was delicious.    Thanks just doesn't even begin to  express my full appreciation for the opportunity to see and laugh with old friends, talk with those amazing people I hardly knew and savor the many varied memories/stories  people related from those  years. What a warm and talented group of men and women from the Class of 1966.

A special thanks to all those who contributed to our "goodie" bags. How Impressive that Theresa Zeyen hand painted so beautifully all those ornaments!

With gratitude for all your hard work and  to all who made our 50th such a memorable weekend.

Hey everyone,

I think it was fairly unaminous that our 50th was a huge success. I barely had time to talk to even a fraction of those who attended, which is a good problem to have had. I want to echo those who also have sent out shouts to Janie and her team for making this happen. It was extremely well organized--well, okay we weren't that co-operative in lining up for the class picture -- herding cats comes to mind, but that wasn't their fault, we are an unruly bunch.

On a more personal note, I want to thank the many classmates who expressed interest in reading my memoir that I was so shamelessly promoting last weekend, and send out this request: if you do happen to plow through this journey of mine from 1948 to 1966, and if you come away with a favorable impression ( you nay-sayers can keep your opinions to yourselves), I would be most appreciative if you would post a review on the Amazon site for the book:

We really celebrated in style, thanks to Janie and Claire and the rest of the team who organized our reunion. Considering that all of us only spent 4 years together at Watterson -- and let's be honest, at our age 4 years is nothing! -- it is amazing and heartwarming that we gather every 5 years to renew friendships and to relive memories. It's like becoming young again, if only for a night!

I really liked Sheila McCarthy's comment -- how unusual it is for that many people to gather together who are all the same age!

Call it a class reunion if you want, but it feels more to me like I just spent the weekend inside a Charlie Brown cartoon filled with familiar characters and forgotten misadventures, with brothers to get crazy with and sisters to tease. We were classmates, sure. But you know and I know it's more than that. Unbeknownst to us and while we weren't looking, something about the time we grew up in, the neighborhoods we knew, and the people who cared for us slipped the same lucky coin in all of our pockets, gave us all the same snow globe to carry around in our hearts. It was magical. We had it good. I'm so grateful to have shared it with you. Thanks so very much to everyone who worked so hard to get us all together so we could remind each other of the wonderful bond we share.

Hi Everyone. Though I didn't get to visit as much as I wanted to, it was so good to see you all. My memories are vivid (cue Mike & Stan: I was teasing. I could NEVER be upset with you!!) and my joy in being with you all is constant. Your friendships definitely make the planning and effort rewarding. It was a pleasure working to help everybody have a great time. Hopefully we will get to do it again in 5!!   Take care of you & yours.

How nice we can all comment on this website in this manner for all to see! (More reason to thank all of you for your support of the raffle to fund it.) Mike, your writing talent completely nails my thoughts about our growing up in the 50's and 60's in such a safe time. The Charlie Brown reference is very apt. and so nice that Larry added the Charlie Brown vignette in the collage. I'm glad you came both nights. I'm humbled by everyone's praise but all the planning in the world would have fallen flat without  the people who attended and made it the complete success it was.

Hugs to all!

Janie

I have been lucky to follow my dreams around the world and in that time met many peple, good and not so good. No other group of people anywhere ever allowed me to play the fool and get away with it so easily; few would put up with such juvenile behavior, and award that fpoolishness with such kind, caring condescension and an occasional "He hasn't changed a bit". Thank you all for a vacation from comcern, for welcoming flights of fancy and fantasy; for those slow walks down misty memory lane. I said and I say that we were so incredibly lucky to have gone through that period of our lives with such nice people as classmates, who have stayed so kind and considerate. Please consider a visit to someone who may need a visit...sometimes personally hard to do but a real good feeling when done. Party on. All of you are Varsity. TL

I am so sorry I was unable to attend the reunion due to my injury.  I had so looked forward to it.  I want to thank Janie for being so kind and considerate with my last minute emails.  I also have thoroughly enjoyed all the pictures and comments on our website.  The reunion looked like a very special event and I hope to see everyone at our next one!!

I want to say thanks to Janie and all the others on the committee who got me involved.  I had such a good time working with you all on it.  Reading all the comments from above I can only agree with the feelings expressed that it was indeed a wonderful reunion.  So many people to thank for such a wonderful time talking and reminiscing.  On Friday night as most everyone was leaving Spuds bar around 11, Stan Kronenberger and I walked out to the patio area.  Mark Schweickart and Dan Cody were talking where the volume was not so loud. We 4 sat and continued talking and laughing until just a little before 1 a.m.  The whole weekend was a great reconnection like Mike and Tim have written.  Dave Mitchell, I think you got it right, can we do this again next weekend?  Thank you all very much.

Hope everyone found a couple of delicious turtles in the swag bag. I came across this from May, 1963 Eagleview and knew you'd be impressed with our classmates who were top sellers back in the day!  I guess I'm still thinking about you all.  Clare

What a great weekend!! I knew we had returned to Watterson when Tom was greeted with "Goose Goose." Thank you to oh so many for your hours of planning, organizing, arranging, decorating.  So many memories were shared/repeated from days gone bye, many smiles, hugs, and much laughter. Tom and I thank you all for such a fantastic reunion and a thank you to all who attended. Donna Kelly - all the way from Spain. Wow! That speaks volumes about friendships, and coming home. To all classmates: Live Well, Laugh Often and Love Much!

Clare's newspaper clipping about turtle sales brings back memories.

First of all we always joked that Robert Armstrong had an unfair advantage. (he used to win these contests in grade school too). His dad was a cop so we assumed he could always put a little extra pressure on anyone who said no - LOL.

Truth be known, my mother would not allow me to sell them door to door, or to strangers. She used to say that Kroger couldn't sell that brand of candy even on their clearance shelf and she didn't want me pedlling "that junk" to friends and neighbors. So she gave me the ten dollars and I ate most of them myself.

And years later, my "mid-kid" Sara, (later of Watterson class about "90?) while still in grade school at "Most Precious Blood" Catholic grade shool in Denver, won a similar sales contest and the first prize was two tickets to a Bruce Springstein concert at Mile High Stadium on a Sunday night in the spring (about 1987). Her young uncle, Brian Hughes (grew up on Arlington Ave.) was living in nearby Fort Collins CO and offered to take her. But snow cancelled the concert until the next night and Brian could not take her on that Monday night. Guess who the task fell to?  Yup, good old Dad. It poured rain but our seats were under cover. I dreaded going but I had no "escape". We actually had a blast. We never sat down the entire show, and could not hear for three or four days after. BORN IN THE USA !

A Reunion to be remembered!! Many thanks to Janie and all of you who helped to create this special occasion. Mike says he found himself surrounded by Charlie Brown characters while I at times felt like Alice peering through the looking glass.

From the quirky double date on Friday to the last round of good-bye hugs on Saturday night it was a magical week-end of memories to be treasured.  To top it off I get to take back to Spain the Hippy Bag (minus the suspicious looking oregano). Tim, how could you know that I went to the James Taylor concert in Barcelona last year?  And now I have his bandana headband to wear next time he is in town!

Be well and stay happy, friends!
