I remember history lessons about the medieval period customs in european nations featuring "the lord of misrule" - a figure that was at the center of annual celebrations that more or less gave everybody the chance to go a little bonkers.

Guess osu football season and specifically the upcoming contest against that school that must not be named is the modern equivalent for me.

i am actually saddened and concerned by the tack the game has taken this time around and the level of animosity among some.

Anyway Happy upcoming thanksgiving  to all and go bucks on saturday and may all of it be joyful especially for all of you and all of those you love. I'm so very lucky to have what I have and more importantly to have a small circle of beautiful souls close to me and safe in my heart..

Taking a corny turn here because come saturday afternoon I become a cave man. But a good sport just the same. That's what I'm aiming for, anyway.

Anybody remember nuns crying in the hallways on this day 60 years ago today?

I remember Sister Norbertine was visually upset.  I was in Biology class with Sr. Mary Alice (now Barbara) and we got up to pray for Kennedy when it was announced that he had been shot.  Then I was in Phys Ed and when we got back into the locker room, Spires announced that he had died.  A horrible weekend.  I still believe that Oswald was a patsy and that JFK was murdered by the collusion of the Mafia and the CIA.

Go Bucks! (No, not those with pads on!)

There have been a lot of bucks around our yard the last few days. This morning the king of the neighborhood was resting in our backyard:

Yes, that is a 14 pointer with a neck bigger than most of our Ponderosa Pine tree trunks!

And he had a lady with him:

But first, a good sniff test:

Yes, she's a keeper.

Soon, a challenger arrives:

Ha! An 8-pointer! Will he lock antlers?

Looks like he is retreating without a fight.

A bloodless victory!

And stay away!

Sometimes a show of strength is all that is needed!

Which reminds me:

I saved my personalized ohio license plate from decades ago now. It's on the wall on the pool deck out back. It reads:

WE 4 BUCS

Happy thanksgiving to all!

Jack,

Thanks, I really appreciate that from someone who knows his way around the photo storytelling world!

Wish I could follow that buck around for a few weeks and make it a documentary 🦌😀.

Loved MM's sign posting - and Jack's spelling comment.

Can any of you name the famous non-bandmembers who have dotted the "i" ?

I think there have been 5.

I'll cheat and give you one of my guesses. I seem to recall Jack Niklaus was one.

** Now that I posted this, I can;t recall where first learned it and who all five are. But I know 2 others (hint: they are "close family mebers"

Mark,

Who could forget that day?

I recall hearing "Mouse's" voice on the intercom, ordering us to "go to our home rooms immediately". At that moment I was writhing in pain, laying on the Gymnasium floor with Dan Dublin, as we had come down on each other's ankles from a "jump ball" in a phys-ed basketball game.

We all proceeded to the locker room to change and as we sat there changing on the benches, John Hicks came over and got in my face and started yelling at me about how much I must have "loved that". He got his finger in my face and went off on me until I got up and shoved him away.

For the record, I did NOT love it - it made me sick - and he came close to gettting me to throw the only punch in my life.

(similar thing happened to me in flight school in Texas with a classmate when Bobby was shot.)

A friendly caution:

One of my great philosophical teachers in lfe, one certain Keith Groff, reminded me once of one of the basic guidlines of life. I believe it occured to him one year about a day from now, after he had somehow lost a sum of money over a certain college sporting event in a state bordering on our north.

He said, "David, we all have to keep in mind that there is indeed life after the Michigan game".

I consider such wisdom a precious gift.   And I remain deeply in his debt.

My Bad.

I have mislead you all about the celebrity  "i"-dotters. I thought I had looked this up years ago. Just looked it up again and find I was way off. There were apparently there have been 17. Some of them were Gordon Gee and his wife,  John Glenn and his wife,  World Heavy weight champ Buster Douglas,

And as I mentioned, Jack Niklaus (famous for being my mother's, mother's, step sister's, great nephew - - small town, back then - Ha Ha), and one          Wayne Woodrow Hayes- yes, Woody!

Some of the others are more obscure and less interesting.

Except this one  - a fella by the name of Bob Hope, who went on to do okay in something other than football, a bit further west of Ohio.

Neighbors house weeks after fire.  Depending on the insurance companies, it may be like this for a year.

I didn't take one of the back of the house which sustained the most damage.

Joe Mc - how awful to have this fire and just before the holidays.  Glad they have a good neighbor like you to help them.  joe

Actually Joe my wife and Iwere the lucky ones to have had such great neighbors for almost two years.  They, the Rivera's, rented the house while the owners were in Georgia starting a small busines.  They were very friendly to us and we never heard loud noises, parties or anything else.  We will truly miss them.

Oh, did I mention that the day in July that Carol and I started driving to Columbus, Carol found out that Lana, was promoted from General Mamager to President of Graton Resort and Casino.  Graton is the largest Indian Casino in Northern California.  With 3,000 slot machines, 144 table games, and a poker room.  Plus an Entertainment center and a 200 room hotel.  I said IS, because they have announced that they are expanding which will result in doubinge the gaming area, the entertainment facilities and the hotel.  She is one great lady.

So sorry to read about the health problems facing Jane and Dave.

On a bright note; Watterson plays Toledo Central Catholic for the division 3 state championsip in football Friday in Canton. Dominic Theado plays an important role on the team as a tight end; he is Tom Litzinger's grandson. I am certain there are other players that are related to our classmates on that team. Please let us know.

So sweet to hear about Tom Lizinger's grandson on the football team. One of my two best friends in life. Tommy and I met at about age 4, peeking at each other over the pews in the old OLP Quanset Hut church near High Steet. Then we played together along the sidelines atthe OLP grade school football games, where our two oldest sisters Kathleen (Mitchell) and Mary Ruth (Litzinger) were cheerleaders.

One early memory was a game where we got into trouble together. We were curious about the sideline yardline markers and decided to grab one and started playing wth it. We ran down the sidelines and created quite a commotion with coahes, parents, and referrees chasing after us. They caugth us and retreived the marker. Mrs. Kay Litzinger and Mrs. Dorothy Mitchell performed some quick corporal punishment on two young bottoms.

Quite a bonding experience!

Dave please keep this discussion completely between the two of us and your stand-in/P.O;A. (Power Of Attorney)

While you are still unable to quickly fly out and make your own deals get somebody you can trust, like Larry Q. Foster, to act on your behalf.

Like I stated earlier, keep this a secret.  Buy options NOW on real estate in California.  As of January, 2024 (that's just about a month away) it will be MANDATORY to teach cursive writing in all elementary schools in California.  The influx of parents wanting to have their children learn cursive so that they can read the cards and letters from their grandparents will drive housing prices through the roof.

Remember, I told you.  Oh, and the Wall Street Journal had a front page article about the mandate so you haqve to move quikly.

Thanks for the good advice Joe. I can always count on you for trustworthy guidance.

But how about right here in South Cackalatcchie? I still don't now where the beginning of this idiotc idea came from but I worry that a time will come when no one will be able t read any historic documents at all. Think of all those letters written during he Civil War - Revolutionary War?

For years I've teased Marines and joked about their "Jarhead" backward ways.

Today I am salutiing one youg Marine. HIs last name is Pence.              He swore an oath!

So did his dad, but needed his Jarhead son to remind him of it.

Damn. Hank Kissinger gone. However you felt about him I can't think of any human being who's been more influential in our lifespan when it comes to high-level international gamesmanship. Of course much of what he orchestrated re: China has been dismantled by subsequent admins.

Joe: Cursive is like somersaulting to me. I know how to do it but I can't do it anymore. Of course there are many things I can say that about, a few of which would make me blush were I to speak of them in mixed company.

Actually I just wanted to use that quaint expression, which is probably on its way out the door. "Mixed company" to mean with both sexes present in a conversational setting.  Kinda charming and polite in an old school sort of way, that. (Sighs).

PS:

This is the sound of black holes colliding in outer space.

Frankly it's a bit of a let-down as I always imagined it to be more like a somewhat louder version of the BOOIIINNGGG! in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

Donna,

I just read of the extreme water shortage in Barcelona and the resulting restrictions that are being instituted. They sound pretty severe.

Mike,

I thought that sound waves could not travel in space which is a vacuum.
