Mike, thanks for the correction. I was up most of the night fretting about not knowing anything about anything. Thanks again for the tip and the long winded saga.

well Jack as I recall we prided ourselves on never knowing anything about anything. Thanks for reminding me of that. Those were the days.

Ah, yes, of course, Joe. Reminding myself now to avoid flammable food.

A couple of side notes on my return from Portland.

Can anyone in the Columbus area kindly ask Bob Curtin if there is any relationship with his family and the town of Curtin, OR, which I passed on I-5 in the South of Oregon?

Because I left the Porland area around 1:15 P.M. on Saturday, and it's about an eleven hour drive home, I had made reservation in Northern California att the town of Yreka.  Due West on the Pacific Coast is the town of Eureka.  I have been to both.

Sunday morning I continued my way South on I-5 and passed the town of Weed, CA.  Back a number of years ago a portion of Weed was destroyed by a wildfire.  The biggest loss was the complete destruction of the California Fire Training facility.  I stopped, as usual, at the  McDonalds for a couple of Hash Browns to go.

JOE:

think of all the pot jokes you'd hear from friends if you lived in a town called Weed.

Guess I need to explain, in case anybody out their is unfamiliar with the usage, that "weed" is slang for marijuana.

Which, by the way, I never liked. I indulged because, just like growing your hair long and using the peace sign as often as possible, it was required of anybody who went through a hippie phase, as I did, before I got drafted and the us army provided me with free haircuts whether I liked it or not.

But in truth much as I affected being a hippie I never really liked pot. Wasn't that crazy about how it made me feel. Just hazy. Not all that different from being drunk if I recall. But I want to say "spookier."

Having said all that I'd love to have a suitably illustrated souvenir t shirt from weed, california.

And if I was the mayor of the town or a member of the chamber of commerce I'd come up with a sly town motto.

something like

"We're High On Weed!"

I'm not sure if Bonnie Jonas ever stopped at Weed, CA but she surely was stopped in Tennessee for "possession", or at least, for "bumper sticker". This is old news but still funny! See:

BILL:

I thought I had a good story. This absolutely tops any story I ever wrote. I have a vague memory of the event but I had utterly forgotten it.

It makes me proud for some reason or other. What a hoot!

Mike for your entertainment.  Look up "HOMETOWN APPAREL" , Weed CA.  They have a good selection.

I found them by typing Weed California T-shirts into my search engine.

Prayers for all our Veterans, especially Bishop Watterson veterans. On this day we remember those who served, those who gave their life for our country and all the men and women serving now. Thank you.

John Schaeufele

Thanks Nina!  I second the thought and send up prayers for all our classmates who served.  Your self sacrifice will always be remembered with gratitiude.

A special remembrance for a Vietnam Loach pilot who now lives in SC, Dave Mitchell. You may be wandering why you haven't heard from him.   Dave was injured in a T-bone accident last Sunday on his way out of the church parking lot.  6 broken ribs later he is still in a Savannah Hospital recovering.  Prayers for Dave who will be transferring to a rehab facility when able.  He sends his greetings on Veterans Day to all.  He is not able to use his computer yet but hopefully soon.  So stay tunned.

Bill, I loved the story about Bonnie in Tenn!  You have to watch out for those Southern cops.

John that is terrible about Dave's wreck. Can you please keep us informed? Do you have an address for him? If so we could send cards.

Been doing a lot of pencil drawings lately.  Eventually they will make their way to my blog page (www.landoflarry.com) but I thought I would share them you all here.  Some are from art instruction books and others are from photos.

Dave Mitchell - hope you are recovering okay.

Mike et al,

If you are interested in sending a card to David Mitchell, here is his address:

David Mitchell, c/o Memorial Hospital, Trauma Center, 4700 Waters Ave., Savannah, GA 31404

He is off his computer and email for now and cannot communicate with the Forum. He said y'all can enjoy the rest period while he is out of the pool.  I know he would appreciate hearing from you via snail mail.  It is uncertain right now as to how long he will be hospitalized as he continues his recovery from the accident.  I know he would apprecaite prayers for healing and pain relief.

James Hamilton, M. D.

Prayers for Dave for a speedy recovery. Fractured ribs are often very painful and can't be immobilized like other bones. One has to breathe! Hope there were no other serious injuries.

Larry: kudos on that artwork!

RIP Bob Bunsey.

Jim

John, thanks for letting us know about Dave and for posting his address so we can all write him a note.

So sorry to hear about Bob. May he rest in peace.

Larry, great drawings. You know I am a fan.

David Mitchell

Hi everybody,

I'm okay. Been in ICU for about 8 days. Plugged in to so many lines and wires I can't count them all. Got smacked pretty hard and broke 6 ribs. Talk about pain - oh boy!

I just haven't felt like posting for a while. Thanks for Johnny Schauefele for staying in touch.

I'll be reading the Forum from time to time.

My two daughters were able to visit - so nice.

Dude. That's just hellish. I know you have what it takes to get through worse. It goes without saying that you are commanded to keep us informed of your progress but we don't want to hear about the yukky stuff.

It may not feel like it now but I know you are quite a yarnspinner and there will come a day when you will enjoy telling this story.

Don't rush it though. In the meantime we're all sending you and your ribs good vibes.

Dave so good to hear from you. So sorry you are going thru this. Glad your daughters were able to be with you for awhile. You are in my prayers for a complete recovery!  Take care of yourself.

Thank you all. I really appreciate all the support - and I'm gettig great support from my 2 local best friends, my church, neighbors, my work., and Marked Men for Christ brothers.

*** And my two favorite young ladies in the whole world

They were both just returning from Portugal so it was easy for Sara to chang her ticket from Boston to Seattle and come down here on the way home. Megan went home to Cincinati and just got a cheap flight back on Allegiant. She can work remotely.

I am doing fine but learnig a lot.

1)I am learning how many places they can prick you with a needle before thye run out of places to stick the damn things.

2) I am learing how to pee in a bottle while lying on your back.

3) Most exciting of all - I am learning just how un-appetizing a hospital can make the food taste - Yikes!

I had plannd to post a story for Veterans Day about a late buddy doing one of the bravest things I have ever seen. but it will have to wait.
