Don't worry Mike...it is not a mandatory assignment.

Mike,

I'm afraid I have been a news junkie all my life.  Before dinner on weeknights, my dad used to sit me on his lap while he read the Dispatch to me. On Sundays after church we would both get down on the living rooom on all fours (me underneath him) and he would read Snuffy Smith, Steve Canyon, and my favorite, Prince Valient to me.

Years later we would watch Huntley and Brinkley together (on those rare occaisions when he wasn't at the office or hospital till waaaay late) and he would ask me if I understood what they were talking about. He didn't like Croknite very well and definately not Howard K. Smith - who dad thougth was a "commie pinko". Dad was shocked years later when he watched H. K. Smith (on his live broadcast) actually advocate letting General Chiang Kai Shek invade North Vietnam to help us win the Vietnam War.

Watching the news reels of Civil Rights events literally changed my dad from a McCarthy-ite to a much less political person - and turned much more back to just his faith.

He was a bitter anti-Kennedy person, but he personally despised Richard Nixon from his early days as a California Congressman (on the "take" from L.A. Real Estate developers from way back - according to dad's youngest brother who lived in LA from about the late '30s to his death in the '80s.).

Coming home from Vietnam I became an steady Tom Snyder fan ("ha ha ha") and then became a Ted Koppel addict during the Iran Hostage Crisis.

I guess I would be considered a "terminal" case.

Answer: As many as you can get.

First Fawn - It's That Time of Year Again

Captured this newborn fawn (probably 1-2 days old) on my "Critter Cam" waking up yesterday.

Nightime video showed mom tucking him/her (no other pronouns, please!) in behind the rock.

Mike,

Wow, impressive use of the English language - endeer and rein! 🦌

Is there a name for that linguistic maneuver?

Excited!

As of this past hour, I am floating on a cloud as my Denver Nuggets just won their first ever NBA Championship (in 47 years)!  I used to take my (now 51 year old ) son as a small boy to old McNIchols Arena to watch David Thompson, Dan Issell, Alex English, Kiki VandeWeghe, Fat Lever, Billy Hanzlik, and many others.

What a game! What a team!

(and what a strange player to become the best ever?)

Worried!

I am praying that MIami sees no violence tomorow. Miami Mayor and Police Chief both claim they are prepared.  We shall see.

Please God, no crazies - no violence.

I ike the quote Joe. Thanks and I shall return the favor.

As it happens I Just ran across a brilliant quote from Carl Jung:

"Thinking is hard. So people judge."

Joe, Mike, love the quotes! Pretty profound, except Joe, what about streakers?!

Janie: We're trying to elevated the conversation here. Get your mind out of the gutter!

My dear classmate and Forum leader, Janie.

Do you remember the name of the "gentleman's" name who streaked at the Buckeye's game with Purdue in 1969?

Gosh, Joe, I do not! Don't tell me it was one of our classmates! wink

I was just joking, at least I don't think anyone streaked THAT game.  The point I was trying to make was streakers are just a flash in time (yes Mike that was a intended as a pun.)  Nobody remembers them.

On the other hand, I have sad news, especially for those who were interested in Land Speed records.  I just learned that Land Speed King Craig Breedlove passed away April 4th at the age of 85.  When he could first Legally drive he drove a 1934 Ford to 154 MPH on the Bonneville Salt Flats.  Eventually he set Land Speed Records at 407 MPH,  In the mid 1960's he set records at 458 MPH, 500 MPH, 526 MPH.  Then in 1965 set his best at 600.5 MPH at Bonneville, his final Land Speed Record.

Happy Father's Day to all of you fathers out there, who, like me, despite the teenage-eye rolling years, managed to balance our ineptitude with certain amount of grace and good will to the extent that we saw them into adulthood with very few scars. It may have been touch-and-go at times, but we made it! Congrats!

Folks,

This has been an unusually rainy spring here in Colorado Springs and has resulted in some very green landscapes. No, not that Ohio green we all know, but getting pretty close.

Outdoor Photographer magazine often has "Assignments" to which subscribers can send in their photos and occassionally that will focus on a color. One of ther favorites is green and so I thought I would prepare for that by going over to Ute Valley Park and seeing if could find some good green landscapes.

I was not disappointed.

With a snow-capped Pikes Peak in the background and that Colorado blue sky this was one of the first shots I made.

A classic color combination of green and purple, which are complentary colors on the "color wheel", caught my attention in an open area of the park.

Using the good "rule of thirds" I found a spot where I could combine the open space, a line of pine trees and Pikes Peak together.

Deeper into the forested region of the park I came upon a grassy region absorbing the afternoon sun which could be framed by some Ponderosa Pine trees.

All in all it was worth the short dive and the short - but rocky - walk to capture the next-to-last day of spring here in Ute Valley.

Jim

Pikes Peak "peeking" at us in the distance certainly "elevates" your photos. Excellent work, Jimbo. (Do people still call you "Jimbo"? For that matter, did anyone ever call you "Jimbo"?)
