Conratulations, Kevin! I'm glad they are finally getting around to our outstanding athletes. I guess we had to wait our turn, or maybe our classmates are a little lax on the nomination paperwork. smiley

Maybe some of you who are better at the specifics can look into the process

GO CLASS OF '66!!

I hope Mike B. will forward all those congrats to Kevin, as he does not do any email at all.

You may all think that Kevin was so exciting to see as a football player, but what you don't know is that he was the all-time unstopable champion at playground "fence tag". We simply cound not catch him until he was the last guy and we could gang up on him and corner him.

His arrival at OLP in 2nd grade caused me a bit of a major life-crisis, that required some adjusting. Prior to his arrival, I was the second** fastest runner in our class after my buddy Tom Litzinger (which was a role that I had come to accept). But Kevin took over that top spot and left me with the awful reality that I was now number 3. But Kevin was such a likeable guy that I managed to survive and get through it.

Life is hard. Then you hear the recess bell ring and you just deal with it.

(** John Jackson, Keith Groff, Tommy Swain, and Charlie Kaps may have differeing opinions on this.)

I actually have forgotten my whole phone conversation with Scott Manahan back then, but I may have also thrown in the names of Gene Rodgers and Jim Hamilton (or more???) - I really can't remember. But I did not include his entire letter in my prior post for a reason. I actually suggested the committee was not qualified to go that far back in history, and Scott's next paragraph responded to that in somewhat strong language.

Keeping my opinions to myself has never been one of my best traits. (duh!)  But at the time I questioned the qualifications of any committee who's list (at that time) did not even incude Kevin Ryan.

Congratulations, Kevin!  Well deserved.  You are in good company with Mike Boulware. Toni Borean, you must be the only classmate with a husband (Fritz) and an uncle (Frank Biancone) in the Hall of Fame.  All great athletes!

While we are on the subject I have often pondered the question, who earned more varsity letters in our class than Tom McKeon?

If I recall correctly he played - - -

Freshman year - Freshman Football - Freshman (or JV?) Basketball - Freshman Baseball

Sophomore year - Varsity Football, Basketball, and Baseball

Junior year - Varsity Football, Basketball, and Baseball

Senior year - Varsity Football, Basketball, and Baseball

------

Just an after though - what about Steve Hodges? - I mean, if you're going to combine sports with "other" things.

Dave,

It was certainly not I on your list. But I do agree that Steve Hodges should be considered.

Many of you will remember our classmate Bonnie Jonas and recall she married Guido Boggioni from the class of ‘65 after our 35th reunion. They live in Plano, Tx. Bonnie and Guido need your prayers. Bonnie has had a series of setbacks to her health and is in a rehab facility in Texas near her home. Guido has been fighting cancer for a number of years and is now in hospice. Fortunately they were able to put them together in the same room so Bonnie will be with Guido during this difficult time.

In addition to your prayers Bonnie would love cards, texts, emails or calls.

Congratulations, Kevin.  You didn't know it but you were my football hero.  So glad you are being recognized.

Janie,

Thanks for the update on Bonnie Jonas. This is weird timing. I had just been wondering about her lately and almost emailed you persoanlly to ask if you had heard any news lately.

As some of you wil recall, Sister Constantious (spelling?) cast us opposit each other in Pride and Predjudice.

I was Darcy, the rich snob, and she was my Miss Elizabeth.

I had (and lost) an old photo of the two of us out in the school hall right after the last nigth in full costume and makeup. I would give anything to find it and post it here.

Been gone all day and had this one thought rattling around in my head the whole time; Why is the school "Hall of Fame" for Athletics only, and why not more of our female classmates?

Among others, I think we could make a case for John Jackson, Keith Groff, and Margorie Davis. It would be about service and acheivement in any field.      I have heard stories about how Mike DeTemple was revered by the students when he was in charge of something (?) at Ohio Dominican. But I am embarrassed to admit that I don't even know what he was in charge of. Was it the whole school?

Ha!

Maybe that list would be too long and they would have to add new wing on the building.

I get the impression your head does a lot of rattling, Dave.

Congratulations to Kevin for being around to receive this honor. Better late than... Thanks for the best thrills in high school on the grid iron. You and the team were always fun to watch. You made us all proud to be Eagles!

I'm guessing cinco de mayo isn't the big deal up there that it is down here.

i do remember somebody who lived across from my sister's house in that walhalla glen neighborhood who had a party to celebrate it.

Be sure to read it all the way to the end.

Dear Professor McLeod,

I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for your English class this semester. I have thoroughly enjoyed every lecture and discussion, and I feel that I have learned so much from you.

Your passion for literature and writing is contagious, and it has inspired me to delve deeper into the subject matter. I have gained a greater appreciation for the complexities of language and storytelling, and I am excited to continue exploring these topics in future courses.

Thank you for your dedication to teaching and for creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. Your guidance and feedback have been invaluable, and I feel that I have grown as a student and as a writer under your tutelage.

Again, thank you for a wonderful class. I look forward to the opportunity to learn from you again in the future.

Best regards,
[Your Name]

haha.

I posted it because I don't know whether it's sincere or a "suck up to your teacher" form letter, given the last line.

I'm leaning towards the latter explanation.

Things have changed quite a bit over the years I've been teaching and nothing surprises me any more.

Mike,

I was sure that letter was your students' final exam and they had to correctly spell and sign their names using perfect nun-approved penmanship (which would automatically mean an "F" for pre-med students).

Mike -- Regardless of whether your student wrote this, or if it was an existing form letter, the fact that he presented it to you this way is pretty hilarious.

I don't know if this is a real photo, but if it is, this house has some awesome curb appeal.

Mark,

I'd say that's a prettty "sharp" looking "flat".

While we are on the topic of music, I spent much of the last few days listenig to Gordon Lightfoot videos. I had frogtten how many great songs he had written and or recorded. What a legacy.

But while I was searching, a numbr of other "artists" popped up on You Tube. It seems there was a big time celebration of a guy we all identify with rather long hair. He was being honored for his 90th birthday.

But something tells me this is NOT from his 90th birthday.

p.s. He mentions several songs he wrote and one of them was "Crazy", the giganic hit for Patsy Cline. If I am not mistaken, Willy needed to go to the crocery store, but he was broke. His wife told him not to come home without food. He went to the grocery store where he ran into Patsy Cline, and ended up selling her the rights to the song for $25.00. He was able to take some groceries home that day.

Among the many guests at Willy's 90th was a retired 84 year old Kris Kristoferson, who I beleive was helped accross the stage by Roseann Cash.

If you havent heard this one about Kris, it's another good one. Kris Kristopherson was a golden gloves boxer and became a Rodes Scholar at Oxford. He later entered the Army and became an Army Ranger, reached the rank of Captain, then became a Huey pilot, and flew in Vietnam (didn't we all?).

Later, while he was in the National Guard, he actually stole an Army helicopter and landed in Johnny Cash's yard to get his attention to sell Cash a song. I think it worked and Johnny eventualy recorded "Sunday Morning Comin' Down".

Why the hell didnt I think of that?

(from the look of the package he is holding (parachute jump gear), I'd say this was at Fort Benning, in "Jump School" - required to become "Airborne", then a "Ranger" or a Green Beret. And I think Benning is the only "Jump School" in the free world, and functions also as training for other nation's paratroopers.

And by all accounts - absolutely gruelling!  No thank you!)
