Yeah Jim and I'm sure I'm the only one who feels that way.

There's a difference between reality and reality tv and it's too bad he missed it.

I actually pulled my punches on that putz around these parts but sometimes the truth is just the truth.

The hurdle Biden had to jump to best him in the history books was not a high one.

John, Mike....we will never agree on politics.  I post here on the forum to offer an alternative to my conservative leaning classmates.

This is like one of those parties where old friends get drunk and wind up yelling at each other in the driveway.

I consider myself a "conservaive leaning classmate" and I abhor the likes of this cheating, lying, whore-mongering, coward, who is actualey monetizing his "stop the steal" campaign on his undeclared "re-election campaign" trail in front of hopelessly ignorant fanatics throughout the country. (at least his crowd numbers are declining)

I thought the first impeachment trial clearly showed us all who followed it that both Trump AND Hunter Biden were as guilty as hell. I still cannot fathom how anyone could see it any other way, unless blinded by political loyalties that allow you to pick and choose truth as you wish.

I must be old fashioned, but my grade school catechism keeps gettting in the way of this new culture of lying through your teeth so often that people begin to just give up and accept it.

As for the anti-vax campaign - almost laughble if it weren't such a serious mater. Just last week the New England Journal of Medicine (a pretty darned unimpeachable source) came out with a study (perahps the same recent one from a medical school in Canada, peer-reviewed by a Texas University medical school) showing a much larger and pretty irrefutable study proving that Ivermectin offered "0" (that is  ZERO) improvement with Covid patients. I even know a guy who got sucked into that rabbit hole and was sick as a dog for almost two weeks.

And just last week we read about this "Zoom" interview with a bunch of historians discussing the Trump presidnecy. Trump elected to join them on line and admitted that to the group "I did NOT win the election". Yet we still have con artists like this former Supreme Court Justice in Wisconsin (Michael Gableman - who claimed he "had no idea how elections are conducted"), using $600,000+  of taxpayer money to conduct another "Audit" of a two year-old election without coming up with a single clue of factual data suporting his point. In fact, I just read where after several months on his new $16,000/mo. (tax-payer bilking) salary, he hasn't even begun yet, partly it seems, because he has no idea how to proceed.

Note: If I am wrong on this story - please feel free to clarify for me. I'm in such a state of disbelief that it boggles my mind.

Best example I can think of about this problem with truth is the lady in Wisconsin (Republican State Rep. Lisa McClain) who told the crowd at a Trump rally the other night that "Trump killed Bin Laden". If you think that's bad, some reporters asked people afterward and they believed her!

I expect next she will tell her followers that Abraham Lincoln was a Muslim born in Kenya.

Which reminds me, I forgot to tell you all that I spent 20 years in a North Vietnamese prison and fathered 48 children - one in each state - those other two states don't count. I may also have a few children on the moon, but they have not written in years.

Bigger fish to fry - just saw this!

Has anybody else seen the breaking headline about the head of "MMC Norilsk Nickel PJSC" (huge Russian aluminum producer) calling for an investigation into the War Crimes in Bucha?

I don't go through "paywalls" but this story sounds like a game changer in the War in Ukraine. Apparrantly, the head of this huge compnay has spoken out against their own Russian Government.

The headlines read something about this company being too big to be censured by the Kremlin, but that's as far as I got.

Anybody able to get the whole story?

Jim:

Waking up this morning in my heart of hearts I am just very sad I upset you, right or wrong of the argument be damned, so I apologize, and do so here rather than via private message because this way seems to give the apology more weight. Though I am firm in my beliefs I get too charged up about this world at large stuff and have dealt with a serious tragedy recently, so it may well be that worry over larger events are a way of escaping that personal sorrow and strain. No need to be passing it on.

Amidst all of the division of the past several years and the present anxiety of the unknown future, it is good that we set aside our passionate discourse every once in awhile and acknowledge that our words do wound others, as I have been guilty of myself.  And so, I thank you Mike for expressing what we all know on this foum to be true.....we were all raised up by our parents and our early faith experiences (regardless of what we eventually experienced in later life) to become and remain conscientious, caring, compassionate. thoughtful and (when needed) remorseful adults. Further, I am sorry you are feeling pain for a particular life situation.

I read this article yesterday and I am sharing it, not to engage debate, but simply as more food for thought.

Mike,

Oh NO!!!

If the YouTube link you posted is saying what I think it is, I am so sorry to hear this has happened to you... to her. Whether her absence is a metaphorical or literal death, it pains me, as I am sure it does all of us, to know you are going through this "hollow" time forcing you to say, "Goodbye my lover. Goodbye my friend."

Shit, man... so sorry to hear that.

Mike,

Apology accepted (but I am not that thin-skinned).

I wish you well on dealing with whatever tragedy has occurred in your life; difficult times are always - well, difficult. I'll remember you in my prayers.

As November draws near and the political rhetoric becomes more heated I think we all need to take a deep breath and remember that, despite political leaning, we share a number of things that have helped form our lives. And those things that we have experienced that have led to our differences have helped us understand each other a little better as we discuss them on this Forum.

That itself I consider a blessing, especially at our age when we are entering those last chapters of our lives.

Jim

Whether you like trump or hate trump let's face it boys and girls life was much better under trump! No need to bring up the old tried abs true reason you hate him but look at his agenda, everything in his inauguration was promised D fulfilled. Red tape was drastically reduced, more money distributed in not so nice cities to help the poor and needy. Stood up to every world leader and imposed his will and there will of America clearly and succinctly. Brought peace to north Korea, held China accountable and out putting in his place. I know you ask will say he was their puppet but Donald j trump is no one's puppet. He was a very savvy business man and tough negotiator for America! What's wrong with that? Inflation was not a word that came out during his administration, lower taxes , economy growing at 5% our more. Job growth that Oblabla not the idiot in there now could never be attained with their policies. Remember when Oblabla said that manufacturing is dead in America trump succeeded in bringing it back to America. Note let's look at your grocery shelves, they ain't like before, Mille $5 a gallon eggs even more and have any of you bought a steak and looked at the price, out of this world cost and California has stopped pig production! Note let's turn to oil! GAs now. Clinging to stay under $5 a gallon. Anything from plastic to synthetic fabrics cost incredibly more! When will you open your eyes and minds. You know in your heart of hearts he's wrong, you know he is trying to destroy America and be forced into world government, his crimes are note coming out with all the major newspapers now saying what you've known that he and his s m and family are criminals. Harris is dumber than Stump and the world fears us not with this administration in power. Go ahead hate trump, love your uncle Joe do nothing and bite your face off in spite of L you know know but wish to ignore. Pray for peace, pray for America and pray for enlightenment

Frank,

PLEASE!

He absolutely did NOT stand up to every world leader. He litterally fawned over Putin and the little fat kid from North Korea - his little buddy.

What he did try to do was to try to dismantel NATO.

And he did succeed in letting his pal Paul Manafort remove the military aid to Ukraine pledge in his party's platfom back in 2016. (Golly that would have really messed up Manafort's Russian business deals!)

How are those things playing out now?

Please don't peddle that utter nonsense here.

Mike,

You just posted a link to one of my all-time favorite YouTube videos. I love James Blunt and that may just be his best song.

Dave,

Speaking of John Williams Jeff and I saw John Williams perform with the Boston Pops at Tanglewood last summer. It was a tribute to all of the music he composed for famous music scores. Star Wars, Jurassic Park and ET were my favorites.
It was a bucket list check off!

Hi everybody!
Well, its that time again, to dust off that seat cousion and head on down to the local ballpark, buy a hotdog and a beer and enjoy nine innings of pure delight. I watched my beloved Detroit Tigers pull victory out of what looked like a certain loss to start their season off right! The thing I like about the game is there are no politicians trying to get your money and vote. The only arguments are about rules and who is the best hitter or pitcher or if that last play at first needs to be looked at in New York by a panal of expert umpires. Like the Bambino said, "Baseball, the greatest game....." Everybody, have a great Spring and Summer enjoying the National Pastime.

I must be confused, but I fail to understand why I cannot be opposed to both sides in our current political climate. On one hand, a criminal and completely amoral liar, doing his best to dismantle our constitution purely for his own personal gain, and on the other hand, a slow-witted, weak liberal.

Why did JoBi wait so long to level sanctions on Putin? Those Russian tanks sat on the border for many months and we did nothing but talk until they finaly crossed the border. Then we went after his Oligark buddies, but only some of them - why in God's name not all of them? Then some, but again, not all of their banks. Why are we pussy-footing around this madman and his tactically incompetent army? Why all this political nonsense about not using those older MIGs in Poland? As we watch them regather themselves on the Eastern border, do we not realize what is comming?

Yes, the arguement is so we won't provoke Nuclear warfare, but MY OPINION is that we have much more capability to offer Ukraine without provoking that. They need to be ready to take the next Russian attack out convincingly, and we all need to be ready for Russian to add another front, like Moldova, or Latvia.

As disappointed I as I am at last week's Jackson/Supreme court circus (in which my Republican Senators stooped to new lows and made complete jackasses of themselves), I was pleasantly suprised to see the Senate pass a new "Lend - Lease" bill to allow more fluid transisiton of militay aid to Ukriane. It sems more of a gesture, considering that we've already sent a ton of aid, but one can hope this may help in the future.

Meanwhile, the recent electons in Hungary and Serbia are very troubling, but God help us if France's election goes the wrong way tomorrow. Macron may not be my favorite guy, and I would actually agree with some of Ms. Le Pin's ideas, but her love of Putin is a pretty scary thought.

(NOTE: if someone is more knowledgable about her, please enlighten me)

Frank: Gobbledeegook. Just feel obliged to be honest with you.

Classmates: Thanks to all for the sympathy. I lost a stepson to a drug overdose. There is a different constellation of drugs out there and as always drug addicts come in all shapes and sizes and they can be very, very stealthy about it. Never underestimate that. I was oblivious. Even if I'd known and tried to act the recidivism is astronomical. But still.

Mike,

So sorry to hear this!

One other thing: I don't watch television, havn't had a tv for years,  but rather do a lot of reading and of course you can watch movies and docs online. I've had this future shock experience of being in homes where, of course, the tv screens are much bigger than they were when I had a tv, and I can't imagine how people can converse with each other in those rooms. Anyway much of the reading I do and sometimes share here is in publications that have a paywall. And I don't know how well the war is being covered on television. But I hope it's clear from whatever reports everyone is seeing or reading  that what is happening in Ukraine is not just  war but systematic genocide. They do not rival the Nazis in quantity but not for lack of trying. From bombing civilian targets to firing squads. Children, women, the aged, the works. I guess it's partly my compulsion as a journalist and the respect for the war correspondents over there -- a job I never, fortunately, had -- but it feels more like my anger and anguish as a human being that however you get your news, I want to be sure  everybody bears witness. That everybody knows. And that those of you who pray are praying.

ok so I am a chatterbox. Been wired lately. I just now realized that of late it is easier for me to print, as I did in my Immaculate Conception days, than to write in cursive.

This circle of life moment brought to you by the friendly folks here at the osteoarthritis foundation.
