Great work Larry n Al!
Bookburning back in style? The local very affluent public school District of Hudson Ohio has an ongoing program of banning (not quite burning....yet!) wonderous works of literature. Their criticisms are hard to understand by their overuse of elongated vowels and the occasional greeting of "lovey" and references to "those people".As a former high school teacher, if you want kids to read a book tell them they can't because it is BANNED.
Now, if I could just go to a restaurant and not have all the tableware jumping off the table and sticking to my body due to those pesky vaccines, I can get back to reading selections from the new Index Of Forbidden Books!

John Jackson

My youngest grandchild will be baptized next weekend. He was born in February of 2020 and my daughter and her husband’s church (in Chicago) was closed for most of his first year because of Covid. Then they got very busy a year ago moving back here (to New Jersey – they live about a mile away) and getting settled.

This grandson is by far the most active of all my grandkids and needs to be watched every minute (he’s blond and I refer to him as Dennis the Menace). A month ago he locked himself in a closet (no idea why the lock was on the inside) and our volunteer fire department came with a full-sized fire truck and five firemen in full uniform to get him out. He was totally unfazed (the closet was lighted and it's used to store toys) and he even got positive reinforcement when the firemen gave him and his two older siblings a lollypop (plus they all got to ogle the firetruck).

He’s not quite 2 but he precociously started his “terrible 2’s” a couple of months ago and now every other word is NNNOOOO! I told my daughter it’s best to baptize kids before they are able to verbalize and abuse the priest. Question for any armchair theologians out there – does the baptism count and is it blasphemy if he screams NNNOOOO! when the water hits his head?

Pretty sure that is a standard spawn-of-the-devil indicator, John. Better luck next time.

Mike, I was worried about that - do you have an exorcist you trust?

John,

You deserve this grandchild. You were way too perfect as a small child. Lets just hope he doesn't grow up to go into ploitics.

my sympathies to all you folks up there freezing your bums off. I do not know what the hell happens to body chemistry once you move to Florida but when it gets down to 60 my companion and I get the shivers and have to cut short our walk around the lake. And he's a huskie.

Mike,

Any gators in that lake? I hear they love to eat huskies and aging journalists 🐊!

Any iguanas falling from trees in your area of Fla? Big news story in NE Ohio.  Almost as big a story to the rantings of a Trumper of how this infrastructure vote just Barely passed in the Senate until it was pointed out that the bill passed by a vote of 69-30.

Dan,

Thats what you get for living in Nortrheast Ohio.

Jim,

We have had several large dogs taken by gators in nearby neighborhoods. And we had a lady on Hilton Head walking her small dog (might as well wave a red flag in theri face) by some lagoons at night and without a flashlight. A gator came up out of the lagoon and got the dog. Instead of running away, the woman tried to save her dog. The gator released the dog and got the woman and killed her.

In a separate incident here is a scene that went viral about 10 or 15 years ago at a residence in nearby Sun City - a big retirement development near Bluffton. The homeowner's neighbor (across the street) called her and told her not to open her door while she called the wildlife patrol. Then she snapped this photo.

Dave,

I did not make that post to Mike totally in jest. When one lives in an area where wildlife is common, especially carnivorous ones, caution and a heightened sense of awareness is always a good idea, particularly after dark.

The photo of the gator at the door is great. It was probably searching for the doorbell! Out here there are many pics - including one video from my next door neighbor - of bears on the porch or deck looking for that nighttime snack.

Jim

Re; Post # 10506  - -  All the more reason to get to work on the problem.

And there are over 40,000 bridges in the U.S. that are in critical shape.

Dave,

And all that "infrastructure" money would have been spent on infrastructure, right? Guess again.

Don't play in the swamp, that's where the gators live.

Anyone know how to set up a Go Fund me account.  I think we should all contribute to one for Mike.  When he went South he gave up his Long Johns and "Winter" coats.  I feel we should help that poor guy, err classmate.

The byword in Florida is: assume that any lake can have a gator in it.

But there are indeed some that are safe, one of which has become a traditional lake for open water swim enthusiasts to congregate at and swim across every morning. Relatively safe. The motto of this loosely organized swim group, here in Orlando, is: "enter the food chain."

There is also a large drive though wetland park near here, hundreds of acres, with an elevated, winding, roughly paved trail that offers gorgeous views of waterfowl and sunning gators, big ones, just a few yards away as you drive by. And no, you're not allowed to get out of you vehicle.

Dave: I am also against this silly business of improving our roadways, though I don't have Jim's prescient insight into how corrupt the whole thing would surely, surely be.

No, my reticence about the project reflects the attitude of the Duke of Wellington, who was opposed to building  - gasp! - railroads (!!!!) to allow the then-new fangled invention known as the steam engine (!!!!!) to transport citizens of the United Kingdom from one end of the country to another:

"They will only cause the lower classes to move about needlessly," said the Duke.

Seriously. I did not make that story up.

PS: Today's performance of Hamilton has been cancelled because of the blizzard.

In other words, history repeated itself:  bbrrrrrrr! shot down Hamilton once again.

I wish I could say I made that one up, but honesty compels me to admit I did not.

Mike,

Your video was interesting. One of the thoughts that I took from it is the word "shameess". As we have seen again this past weekend in his Texas speech, this guy is utterly without shame.

Strange times we are in - - where JoeBi (a weak Liberal whom I would normaly oppose), should be our only buffer against this vicious, crazy, selfish liar, yet he is so weak that he will almost certainly loose in '24.

And who will be running again if his threateneing mobs have their way?

Would that voices like Mike Rounds (Rep. Senator - S. Dakota), or Larry Hogan (Rep. Gov. Maryland) coudl be heard more loudly. But then comes the second thought I took from your video - that so many people could abandon all sense of objecive reason.

Meanwhile the "Kevin McCarthy Club for Sniveling Cowards, White Supremisicist Liars, and Circus Clowns" marches along in lock step. The "Party of Lincoln"?  What a joke.

Maybe JFK himself could return from the grave and write a new chapter of "Profiles in Courage".

Oh, but I suspect it might be a very short chapter.
