Jack,

Having kept it all inside for about 45 years myself, I think you are better off sharing it. And I for one thank you for doing so with us. I don't think anyone, old classmate or not, needs to tell you how to feel about it.

And the film collection sounds fascinating.

As for that "stuff" on your shoes - good luck with that.

To interrupt your normal channel I want to pass on something a friend pass along.  He does an e-mail with the latest OPERA info - after all his monicker is OPERA BOB.  Anyway, this was found on You Tube and is NOT opera perse, but I enjoyed the whole 7 minutes and 43 seconds, it's actually hilarious.

"They Don't Let You in the Opera"  Kelli O'Hara. (Michael J Moritz Jr - Conductor)

Yes it starts out as Country, with a full orchestra, then there is a slight change.

If you strip away the politics and just look at it objectively it's pretty cool to live in a country that can be run by a billionaire one day and some dude named "Joe" the next.

A few quick responses to recent posts:

Jack – As the time of year quickly approaches when I face the challenge of stringing Christmas lights on the roof of the house, it has become far more difficult for me ever since learning of your dramatic rooftop escapade. But then I tell myself to buck-up, it's not so dangerous – it's not as if you need to have a chainsaw in one hand.

Joe – the youtube links you provided are not working.

Mike –Is our con-man-in-chief really a billionaire? I think it may be that he is more in the red than the black. I don't have any evidence for this, just something I think I read. I thought I would mention it because, being the journalist that you are,  you seem to know these kinds of things. Is he in fact a successful businessman? We know so many of his projects have proved to be utter failures (Trump casino, university, steaks, etc.) Regardless, it will be nice when our tax dolllars no longer have to cover his absurd lifestyle.

Mark I was able to do it, although not easy.  This morning I "BINGed", I don't like Google but it probably works also, and it came right up.

Go to either Bing or Google and,

Type in:  Kelli O'Hara "They Don't Let You in the Operaand it should work.

Another Note.  If any of you were thinking of trying "Plinney the Younger" a Triple Pale Ale from Santa Rosa, CA in February - Forget it.  They just announced that the taprooms will not be open this February.  Last year people came from over 47 states and about 34 countries to stand in line for a chance to enter the two facilities and taste "Plinney the Younger."  In two weeks last February they had over 50,000 people over the two week period.

Jack,

I just had another thought since your recent post. I still think your first story about cleaning your roof was the single best post since we started this darn Forum (narrowly beating out Tim's "Big Sally" story, Clare's "Last game at St. John Arena" story, and maybe Linda's story about her dad's famous country band), but I would like to cast my vote for you NOT getting back up on your roof again. We already have enough "medical" bad news to deal with and probably don't need a new story about a broken neck.

p.s.

Clare, please copy this message to your notes about stringing Christmas lights. I think I read somewhere in some local news article about oysters, alligators, and Christmas lighting that anyone living above the Mason-Dixon line, and over the age of 70 is no longer permitted to climb above the second step on a ladder.

(or ride a mower on a steep incline)

MASK UP,  WASHY HANDIES,  (keep clicking those Amazon buttons) AND STAY ON THE GROUND

Joe,

The link you provide does not work, but I just typed the title into You Tube and got it. Pretty clever and funny performance.

One question: why not try the "Plinney the Elder" ?

Is that frosting an absentee frosting, or an in-person frosting?  There seems to be a discrepany between the total of cookies ordered, and the total remaining uneaten. I think we'd better demand a recount to see if we can validate those cookies.

Gobble gobble gobble!

Mark:

I should have put billionaire in quotes.

His "fortune" is as phoney as the rest of him. Lotta loans coming due plus the fishy tax return issues to deal with. He's so obviously counterfeit through and through that I just assume I don't have to point it out. Even his presidential campaign wasn't real. It was a publicity stunt. He never expected to win. I remain suspended in a state of astonishment that so many millions couldn't see through Trump. I wonder, when Shakespeare said "life's a stage," if what he meant was that it's all about putting on crazy shows in a theater filled with equally crazy audience members who just see what they want to see.

Joe,  Better bing more often, it is Pliny the younger.  Is Pliny the elder available year round?  I think so.

Great tap room anyhow, next trip to the coast maybe we can meet there.

My son's mother-in-law posted on facebook a photo of herself with the caption, "I'm dancing to my heartbeat." I thought it a lovely sentiment. The dance that never ends. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I don't have any cakes or pies, but I did have a donut this morning. From Donutown. They are the best donuts in the area. Butter cream, powdered sugar. Tis the season to enjoy the excesses of life, and to be thankful to be able to rise from the table only to collapse on the sofa to drink in that Lions game. Enjoy the loneliness of this holiday. Those of us with extended families whom we normally celebrate with is on hold but who knows we may designate a day in April as Covid day, where we can be together and be truly thankful for surviving the plague of the 20's and remember those we've lost.

As the country heaves that big sigh of relief that all the political debating is over and that the four years of tragic comedy is ending. As entertaining as it has been, I suggest that perhaps a permanent moratorium be put in place as to all the frivolous political postings. This is just a suggestion. No ill intent is directed at any of our astute classmates who spent their valuable time in the pursuit of a more perfect union, but its time to call it officially ended. For at least two or three years anyway. At least til I get that recipe for that Georga Peach chicken dish.

Dave M., it was a leaf blower, not a chainsaw. That's another story.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. We are a lucky bunch -- parented by the greatest generation and so immensely fortunate to come from a wonderful school, a lively city with a fabulous university, a charmed time to be kids, a blessed country in spite of all its challenges, and a bountiful world in an era of wondrous change. My word for the day is cherish. I see cause for it everywhere. We're on the brink of the endgame of this terrible disease and I am especially grateful at this moment for all the brilliant minds around the world who made it so. Timing and circumstance put us in a position to be gratitude specialists -- well-stocked with blessings thanks to the world we started out in, to what we can bear witness to and share and celebrate today and from here on out -- from the Mickey Mouse Club to the moon landing to cell phones and that monthly social security check. Class of 66, rock on. Let us leave our mark. Let's all give thanks for the memories -- and each other.

For all of you who inquired (the two Dave's), Plinny the Elder is available all year round I believe.  It is Plinny the Younger that is available for TWO weeks only in February.  Next year (2021) they will be selling The Younger, but only for online orders AND ONLY for shipment to addresses in California.  Not sure if that includes Hotels, Motels, and B&B's - but the Millions (okay, only about 50,000 who were expected next year (2021) to arrive to stand in line for up to five hours for the chance top enjter the bar(s) to buy Plinny the Younger are #$@@#$^$ out of luck.

And No, they limit the deliveries to any one address, so forget me trying to order a bunch.  Besides, I don't have a license to resell, especially to out of state.

James Hamilton, M. D.

To all,

Janet and I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving as we begin this holiday season. Although it is very different from past Thanksgivings, there is much for which to be thankful and I think Mike McLeod expressed it well (that guy should have been a writer 😁).

Mike,

Amen.

Beautifully put my English Major friend. (except that you left out Roy Roders and Howdy Doodie)

I myself have three words for the day - Gratitude, Gratitude, and more Gratitude.

Hope you all have something to be grateful for.

(p.s. Joe, I was joking about "the Elder". Had no idea there was such a thing - ha!)

So I took what I expected to be my usual walk today.  But I got stopped by some turkeys not wearing masks.

By the way, I don't remember seeing this in Ohio, but here they call them Squirrels Nests.  Any ideas???

Have another piece of Pumpkin Pie, then Mince Meat, then Vinegar Pie.

This maybe a clearer picture of what I mean by "Squirrels Nests".

This is just one of MANY.
