Clare,

I haven't seen a Snow Angle in years.

( Snow Angels yes, but not Snow Angles )

POP QUIZ ?

What famous male singer was Eydie Gorme married to?

Caution: anyone even dreaming that it was Mel Torme will be kept after class for detention and required to write 100 times on teh blackboard;  "Go Away Little Girl".

It's sad, but this is the kind of stuff that comes to you when you overdose on too much NFL football.

Mary Clare Hummer (Bauer)

How can watching all those former Buckeyes showing their stuff in New Orleans possibly get you daydreaming about Steve Lawrence & Edie Gorme?

Clare

I was pulling for "Saint Nick" to pull out another of his (post) Christmas miracles.

But at least you got the quiz right. One outt'a two ain't bad for a Clintonville girl.

CORRECTION !!!

Re: Post #4576, Reason #4,  I meant ........"those of us who live the FARTHEST".

Sorry, I think Nina (my spell checker) is off on Sundays.

Mary Clare: do NOT try to figure out how Dave Mitchell's brain works lest you fall off the edge of the earth as we know it. There be dragons. You have been warned.

I noticed Angela Madson, competing in the paralympics back in 2011, was the first woman to complete, in over 160 days, rowing a boat on three oceans. And people complain there is nothing on tv anymore. I suspect that Dave Mitchell may have been involved somehow. Seriously Janie, do you make this stuff up or do you have a staff of elves gleaning rare olde books for obscure facts. Boggles the mind. I will concede that what Angela accomplished is most impressive. One leg of her feat was 66 days to cross the Pacific. We're talking row boat folks. I suspect this woman is probably internationally ranked in arm wrestling as well. The logistics of rowing a boat accross the ocean are not easy or cost effective. The rowers have a mothership that provides them with sleeping quarters, food and comforts. The fuel alone for a ship, crew, and supplies for rowers and team members would be several line items in the budgets. Then the hazzards, pollution, creatures, and weather are concerns ever present. It's rare that an athlete is killed performing in competition, but it has happened. The Russian luge competitor several years ago is the only one that comes to mind. But a rower in the middle of the ocean is a scary, lonely thought. I get exhasted just thinking about it.

Hark, are these but the frustrated cries of more Clintonville "Forum wanna be's" ?

Note:  in these prehistoric rituals, civilization had not yet perfected the art of having fireworks shooting out of their boobs - yet !

If you think it was hard to remember Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, here's a nice walk down memory lane from our old friend Billy Joel. If you never ran into this song before, it is quite an impressive history lesson, aimed right at our age group.

Great pick Mark. Always been fascinated by the arrangment of the phrases.

Thanks, Mark.  Watched every second...although at our age I wish it had been in slo mo.

Mark,

Great history refresher! Hope there won't be a quiz. The lyrics are a bit harder to memorize than "I'm Henry the VIII, I Am".

I once tried to sing "We didn't start the fire" at a karaoke bar.

Be grateful you were not there that night.

Alas, there is a bit of untruth in the words to that song. As I may have related a year ago on this Forum, at about th eage of five, Tom Litzinger and I (both of whom were card carrying members of the "pyromaniacs anonymous" at the time), did our best to lite his parents garage on fire. We were clever enough to pile a bunch of dry leaves up against the back side of the garage wall and get them started with the matches he had snuck out of his kitchen, but some nosey neighbor lady started yelling over at Tom's house and his brother Billy ran in and told Mrs. Litzinger on us. She came out and doused it - the rest is history. Not very good history actually. But that's just how we rolled.

I read the article that Dave Barbour referenced and I see that Clare also read from the NYT and thought I’d post the link to make it easier to just click on.

You will think this is a parody. But it's not.

As they say, you just can’t make this stuff up!

You gotta wonder about this guy. He must not have any human friends.

“When Wally isn’t engaged in emotional support activities he likes to hang out with Henney’s other gator, Scrappy, in a 300-gallon pond Henney built for the alligators in his living room.”

How many of us haven't seen the Gillette comercial?  Pretty easy to find, it almost makes me proud

to be human!

James Hamilton, M. D.

Emotional support alligator??? You also have to wonder about the management of that assisted living center who allow their residents to be subjected to danger. Wait until "Wally" takes a bite out of Ward or June and management has a major lawsuit on their hands - and Ward or June is missing one of their's!

I think Billy Joel should compose a Sequel to "I didn't start the fire!"  Great history lesson!!  Have enjoyed reading about all your lives!  Tdhanks!

I really enjoying seeing a lot more of the group posting. heart

This seems fitting with our Watterson education. Would make some our nuns proud.

Today is Thesaurus Day.

On the birthday (1779) of Peter Roget, author of the major thesaurus, we celebrate all thesauruses. So, go out and celebrate, beat the drum, carouse, commend, dedicate, extol, fete, have a ball, honor, jubilate, kick up your heels, laud, let loose, lionize, live it up, make merry, paint the town red, proclaim, publicize, revel, revere... well, you get the point!

Funny reference to June, Ward and the Beav, Jim. You'll never make a doctor out of me but at this rate maybe we'll make a writer, or perhaps a photojournalist, out of you.

Why do I feel a need for carnitas del puerco and a big old frozen Margarita...pass the chips n salsa!

Mike,

Don't all you Floridians have pet alligators?
