Great fun, Janie!  Definitely his best. Thanks for sharing.

Re the Selby/High St diner - Clintonville should definitely not claim that corner. :-)

They seem to have lost Beechwold as a neighborhood and call everything to Worthington Clintonville. How can this be?!

Ashamed I am for that mispelling of duel, Mark. Lord only knows how many words I have spelled wrong over the last 45 years. One learns both humility and appreciation for good editors.

Linda,

Loved your Monty Python bit!

Watched them all the time years ago and gave my kids reason to beleive their dad was certifiably nuts. I still get a smile when I recall a skit where the guy walks in from the "Department of Finishing Sentences", and cuts them off every time they open their mouths to say something and finishes what they were going to say.

And Janie, Never fear, the "Peoples Republic of Beechwold" will weather this insult.

(I'm at my youngest daughter's in Cincy - can't wait for tomorrow night in Big "C")

Janie/Sheila,

The Beatles came to New York and stayed for a little over 2 weeks (maybe 17 days).  They appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show on 3 consecutive Sunday nights (February 9, 16 & 23, 1964).  The first show was on the day I turned 16.  It was indeed 54 years ago.

I remember seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan!  A bunch of us were congregated at Jodelle’s house.   All of us around the television screaming and Mrs. Sims there with us - giggling at us.   Fun memories!

Janie, regarding the boundary question Worthington/Beechwold/Clintonville/etc., this might be something for our resident city expert to clarify – yes, Fred, that means you. I remember when my family lived a few streets south of Selby on Rosslyn, we considered ourselves to be in none of the above, but rather in something called Sharon Township, whatever that meant. I always had the sense that Beechwold, to our south, did not stat until about Morse Road, and Worthington, to our north, didn't start until Southington. To the northeast, where most of the families comprising St. Michael's lived, was referred to as Colonial Hills, which I always thought started at Selby.  It is not clear in my mind what constitutes areas of a city, versus unicorporated districts, versus separate cities within the greater Columbus metropolitan area. I am pretty sure Worthington is a separate city, but what the other areas are exactly, I will defer to Fred for clarification.

Fred, you're up.

I agree that Fred should be the one to accurately define the boundaries of Clintonville. That being said, the southern border (Glen Echo Ravine) and the western boundary (the Olentangy River) are not in dispute. The eastern boundary is a little nebulous (railroad tracks, Indianola Ave., or I-71), but the northern limit is very questionable. Beechwold seems to have been absorbed by Clintonville but where the north ends is debatable.

I want to wish everyone (belatedly/in hindsight, currenlty/now, and future/whenever) a Happy 70th Birthday.  For the rest of us who are turning 39, for the last time, I want to wish a future (next year) an early 71st birthday.  We will have a lot of catching up in a very short period.  And those who are stuck at 29 I offer my sympathy.

Joe

Mike could you please try and explain what has happened to print journalism.  As an example, I finished the Wall Street Journal and started reading Barron's.  On the Index page, and several follow story pages they (read columnists) talked about "ESG Investing".  Never once die ANY of these individuals explain what "ESG" stood for.

I think I overlooked the week ago article in the Wall Street Journal that referred to the Washington Post review of the Miami Dade article that explained "ESG".

What has happened to EDITORS who would never permit sloppy writing be published.  Even I remeber being told over and over again that at least the first time in an article, where you utilize abbreviations, you spell out what the @^#%$@ it means (sorry for the language).

Joe

And to all of you who make it to the party tonight, know that the rest of us are envious. Be sure to raise a toast to all of us who are missing out. We'll be thinking of you thinking of us!

What a great party! Great weather, wonderful food, fabulous friends! Thank you, Peggy, for the greatest 70th birthday party ever! It was so much fun seeing everybody, reminiscing, having a few cocktails and unwinding on a lovely June evening. You're blessed to have such a wonderful family, Peggy. And thank you, Janie, for all your efforts! I definitely think we should continue having these parties every year--maybe even twice a year (seeing as how we're not getting any younger!). Anyway, it was a blast and just fantastic to see everyone! Hope to see you all again soon.

Hey Joe. What happened to print journalism was the internet. I can't say for sure what triggered the specific issue you speak of; I can only say the economic model for print disappeared, or at least contracted catastrophically, when people could get their info on line -- and of course on television. Plenty of people predicted that print publications would disappear altogether, but so far that hasn't happened. Strangely enough I think in the future there is a chance people will look back on this as a golden era for journalism because professionals are still in there battling against all odds -- in spite of the slurs from on high, outright ignorance, and monied interests --   in other words, the usual suspects. That much hasn't changed.

You guys clamoring for Fred to get on the stick about neighbothood boundary info......give the man a little break?

He was busy all evening helping me check out the guacamole. After all, we do have our priorities you know.

But there did seem to be a serious breech in the regulations. There must have been at least a dozen "kids" (69 year-olds) who crashed the party. Something really must be done about this.

But the really cool part was that since I drove further than anyone else, they let me have my bratwurst free - and it came with a free bun and free mustard. Man, it doesn't get much better than that!

Thanks Peggy, Clare, Nina, Janie, et al.

p.s. Clare will be graduating to the heavyweight division of the next Olympic ice chest hauling competition. She 'da man!

( So glad Mr. Cull showed - - but Note to Stan, I hardly got to see you before you got away. )

THANK YOU SO MUCH to Peggy and her wonderful family for a PARTYπŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ to remember!!!  The food was fabulous, the desserts divine!!!  But most important...the classmates etc...who were able to come to the EVENTπŸ€—πŸ€—β€οΈπŸ‘. We sure missed those of you who could not make it. Hopefully next tim>?

It was so nice to just visit and hear how everyone was, so good to see Toni there feeling better,  and discuss how we can NOT possibly be 70!!! ( ok some of you are not there YET!) So nice to see some people who were not at our last 3 gatherings too. Carol is was sooo great to see you again! It was just a special night πŸ’•

Thanks to Dave M. driving all the way here. I have learned so much about his life and others on this forum.

Peggy your kindness touched many lives last night. You may never know who really NEEDED to be around old friends but I know it was special to all of us. So glad you are back in town.

We will keep praying for Bonnie and a bone marrow match.  And all of our classmates and spouses/partners who need prayer.  And a cure for cancer!!!! Prayer is so powerful, especially when so many are praying.

Many said they want to get together more often. We are looking towards fall for our next lunch/brunch or dinner.

Thank you again Peggy. God bless you and your family.

HAPPY 70th birthday to the Bishop Watterson Class of 1966πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸ·πŸ™πŸŽ‚

Thank you, Nina, for your kind words.   I was thanking the Lord all evening for Hus provision and hand in the party success.   My family outdid themselves with the great food and work putting this together.   And a big thank you to Fred Clem for bringing the tray of fried mushrooms.  Oh my gosh- delicious!  You know what else is great?  We had croquet, bocce ball, and corn hole set up but everyone just wanted to be together!   Love it!   And thank you to Dave Mitchell for driving so far to be here.  Upon later reflection I thought we should have given him a prize of a tank of gas!  My neighbor, MaryKay, is a St. Joe’s gal but said she connected to many in our class due to mutual friends.  Rob Galli (class of ‘65) came with Tony and Cookie Andrietti (class of ‘65).   It was wonderful!  By the way, Tony and Cookie just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary!   Suffice it to say, I am a very happy girl.   Thank you to all who were able to come to the party!!   Yes - let’s make this s habit.

I know some others took photos so please post or send them to me. I think there were about 30 classmates in attendance.

Gus and I hated missing Peggy’s party. We took our 17 year old granddaughter to Asheville, No. Carolina for an Outward Bound survival course. Then off to Chicago. It sounded like a wonderful time. Hopefully next time....

My sister said one of y’all makes wine and collects wine bottles.  Who is that?  We’ll save some for you.

Someone gifted me with this fabulous wine glass.  Unfortunately, the card was separated from the gift.  However, I love it!!   How clever and unique, don’t you think?!   Thank you so very much!

So wonderful to see all your smiling faces... I can feel the love all the way out here in Nevada (and I mean that)... It amazes me that we are so close and connected, bringing a sense of well-being in a rather complicated world. That is due to the dedication of all who make this possible from our fabulous web site to putting these gala events together and to contributing to the forum.... Thank you....
