Gael Joseph "Michael" Shanahan

SHANAHAN Gael Joseph "Michael" Shanahan, age 60, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, December 28, 2008. He was born on May 13, 1948 in Chicago, IL to the late Charles and Virginia. Mike attended OSU and graduated from Wright State University. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Mike enjoyed coaching the school sports teams his son played on, especially baseball, and he was proud of his son playing football at DeSales High School. He enjoyed watching football, baseball, and cheering for Joe's Dolphins and Yankees. Mike was president of Custom Color Sports Marketing. He was loved for his loyalty, honesty, and great sense of humor. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Paul and Jerry Jury who always thought of Mike as a son. He be greatly missed by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 37 years, Mary; his son, Joe, who was his best friend; and his faithful canines, Bullwinkle and Yogi. Mike is also survived by his sister, Patricia (Bill) Meyers; two nieces; and aunt, Millie (George) McKay. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd. Fr. Charles Cotton, Celebrant. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital or DeSales High School Athletic Fund, c/o Ryan Wiggins.
