I am slow and likely late...There are great photos of Clare and family and friends at the Schroedinger website. In one she has a big covid type mask on with the letters "VOTE" printed in giant letters on it.  She was such a great gal. I never knew she was a cheerleader at OD college...I only knew she was the main cheerleader for those kids.

Today's bloom!!!!   Rest in God's peace Clare.  You were loved by so many.  You made a difference in this world.

Just have to add what a solid friend M Clare could be. Like Mary Margaret I lived just a few doors away from her. We were classmates and car poolers when we were both earning degrees from ohio dominican, and I remember more than one conversation with her, well after high school, in which she basically played the grownup and I was the rather immature young man who needed a talking-to. God bless you, dear friend and helpful counsellor.

Somehow I expected that post from Nina. How appropriate!

Thanks, Nina. It was beautiful. I was able to go to the funeral home for the visitation and met Clare's husband and some of the family. There were also several Watterson classmates there. So great to see them!!  Clare was much loved. joe

Spooky happening.
The day before the news of Clare's passing, I got a notice from google in my photo gallery that they had compiled some similar shots. They were all of Clare. Photos I took of her when she came up here to visit The Henry Ford. The photos were all of her. The next day she was gone. I'm not one for a rational explaination, but it was pretty spooky.

Jack,

Truly, very spooky.

I'm not one to believe in psychic explanations, but some happenings in life make me wonder if God might be giving us little messages at times like these.

My mother's brother, Uncle Jimmy (after whom I was named), died when I was 11 years old. His was the first funeral home viewing that I can remember.

A few days later we had a new milkman (or it could have been a new breadman - back in the days when they delivered those staples to our homes) on the route. As I opened the door the man standing there with the basket was the identical, spittin' image of my uncle.

I literally yelled to my mom to come to the door and she was aghast of the resemblance.

Any other classmates out there have had strange occurrences?

Jim

Carl Jung, the founder of analytic psychology would say that there are no coincidences - all are connected. So, personally, I would say there was a connection, Jack.

My mother died at 4:10 on a Sunday morning.  We had brought a nun who knew my mother well - they would talk every week on the phone and two weeks before my mother passed, we brought her to my mom's home so that they could spend some time together - there was a real connection.  At 8 a.m. I called the convent to tell Sister that my mother had died that morning at 4:10. She gasped and said she was just telling the sisters at the table that at that same time, she was awakened in her room of the vision of a woman who was radiantly happy. The woman spoke to her and said, "Sister, we have so much to talk about when we are together again." It had to be your mother. She told me to tell my sister that this was a sign that her mother (and mine) was okay.  I got off the phone and told my sister at the breakfast table (we were there waiting for the funeral director to pick up my mom's body) and I told her what sister had said. My sister went white and said that she had asked mom (and told no one else) to give her a sign that she was okay if at all possible. She said it had to be mom telling us that she was just fine.

Coincidence? Maybe not.

To Jim and all,

At 2:00 am on a morning in 1976, I witnessed my aunt Margeret's passing with my mother sitting beside her on her bed, holding her hand.

They were in Philadelphia....... I was in the Wind River range in Wyoming.

POP QUIZ

Does anyone know where our school mascot name EAGLES

and the school colors MAROON & GOLD came from?

07/20/25 06:50 PM #15941

John Maxwell

Dave,
Bishop Watterson was from Philadelphia. The Eagles were his favorite NFL team, hence, Eagles. Their colors forest green and white. The opposite of forest green is maroon, and rather than go with black, since white is the abscense of color, any color could work. They, the CCL founding fathers, chose gold. This is my guess.

Nice try Jack, but no.

Hint - has to do with Msgr. Spires

Mouse went to Boston College and loved the Cardinal and Gold Eagles.. Monsignior was a decent man who did a lot for us that went unappreciated. I found that out when I taught at Watterson. He was a true baseball nut, but realized that the dollars came from football.

I have found many coincidences in my life but they are too long to tell here.  Come on over and I will open a nice bottle of wine to help remember some of them.  We can sit on my terrace that Dave will never, ever, ever hit a golf ball from. :-)

Meanwhile I found the following while organizing boxes of papers today.  I have no idea where it came from but I wanted to share it with you.  I think we can all relate to the sentiments expressed here.

Donna:

I know it's just a poem and not a prayer - but somehow at the end I want to say "AMEN!"

And I like the fact that you ran across it by accident - so many times i have stumbled onto something brilliant and unexpected on a page and that makes it all the more exciting.
