MM, I’m guessing the Babylon Bee’s interview subjects would dismiss the following chart as fake news:

Can you imagine what people will think about trump and his believers -- or all of us, for that matter -- a couple of generations after we're gone?

I shouldn't talk. The only reason I behave with any degree of sanity is that my significant other is a grade school teacher who knows how to handle somebody who operates at my level.

Wow!   I'm feeling old today.

How old are you feeling Dave?

I'm feeling so old, I can remeber way back when ( I thought ) Marco Rubio was a decent human being.

Having those three little girls, age 2, 4 and 7 removed from the country (and without the one's cancer medication)  makes me feel sooooo much safer.

I don't know how you do it, Jack, but you're just as much of a font of wisdom now as you were in high school!

hey dave glad somebody picked up on that.

he's new to me too.

my sig-other turned me on to him, bless her heart..

by the way after teaching and writing part time over the past ten years i am finally fully retired.

well, sort of. now i'm full time pool boy and gardener.

the dried out plants out back who've been bilstering under the pretty dang unforgiving florida sun make me feel guilty, they keep looking at me, like, hey, dude, it's about time!

In some ways gardening in florida is more difficult than gardening in ohio. Shade is essential. Gotta have plants that provide it not just for you but for any low level flowering plants you're tending to. Learned that lesson the hard way.

in all seriousness i'm a bit nervous about the transition to being fully retired..

and surprised at all the housekeeping i suddenly have no excuse to ignore.

as my girlfriend keeps reminding me. She teaches second grade so she knows how to deal with somebody at my level of maturity and trust me i am not joking.

by the way. i've been going over my old clips and found this tribute to a lovely lady. you might enjoy it.

i don't ordinarily subject anybody to my clips and i promise not to get carried away with the sharing of them but harriett was a goddess.

let me know if you have any trouble with the link.

I miss Jocko's posts because I really enjoy his irreverant sense of humor. Don't know why he deleted the most recent ones. Takes me all the way back to "Yuz Army" days....wasn't there something we said....No, Not the one about grandma being slow but she was 98 and pregnant... something more obvious about what folks could do if they couldn't take a joke? Party on Jack.

HELP!!!!!

Please vote for my granddaughter for Dispatch Athlete of the Week. Voting starts this afternoon. Rylee Steinbeck is a lacrosse midfielder for Worthington Kilbourne. Rylee had 5 of her team's 10 goals against Thomas Worthington in a 10-8 victory despite disloicating her shoulder . She had three goals in their other game. It is difficult to get enough votes because Hilliard, Dublin, Olentangy, and Upper Arlington have a strong voting block. Thanks

Mike,

I just voted for Rylee, but the girl from U.A. has an enormous lead.

It'll take a miracle. (and lots more of our classmates)

Thanks so much Dave,

Rylee took a stick to the face Saturday against Thomas Worthington. She got up , shook her head, and knocked in a penalty shot. Later on they sent a kid to knock her off her feet; the kid did. Rylee had a dislocated shoulder. They carried her off the field, I wanted to fight the whole stadium for the cheap play. The trainer popped her shoulder back in place, then iced it.Rylee went back in and scored two more goals. Her team upset Thomas Worthington 10-8. Rylee had 5 of the 10 goals. She is so determined and desreves the award. You did not waste your vote Dave and I sure appreciate it.

Class,

Google up Columbus Dispatch Athlete of the week

Search for "Vote for Dispatch Athlete of the Week presented by Wexner Medical Center"

Then scrolll down quite a ways - past severaal other photos - until you see a light grey box with all the names in it (very small print)

With tiny circles by each name - Rylee's name is top of the list

Mike, Wow! hard to believe they didn't penalize the other team!!!

04/29/25 05:56 AM #15510

Theresa Zeyen (Kucsma)

Rylee got my vote also. She was third on the ballott and was leading w 45% of the vote. Come on, Class of '66, let's carry this for a deserving athlete! VOTE!

Donna Kelley (Velazquez)

Mike, I have tried several times but the option to vote must not be available to voters from abroad. (Hoping this has nothing to do with the SAVE Act ). wink     I really hope that Rylee wins because she is obviously a true winner!

Donna- Thanks so much for trying.

Mark, John,Patty, and Theresa; your votes have helped Rylee jump into first place!!!!! It is early so it would be helpful to have our Eagle class vote for a deserving girl. I told Goose that he and Tess could join us next year to watch her play for St. Leo in Florida. Thanks so much for voting for Rylee. We have to remember that Dave Mitchell got the ball rolling.

Thanks Monica and Joe. See if you can get my old classmate, Don Brown, to vote as well. He sure is a great guy; you married well.

Sorry Mike but I tried.  After submitting my fifth vote and trying for a sixth my system went down.  I can try again later.

I have an odd but sweet little story about a keepsake which I have been meaning to share.

My wife and I own a vintage beatle album from back in the day. It has been signed by all four beatles.

Here's how that came to be.

she lived in london, way back when, and the album -- it's the help! album - is hers.

Her father, an american, had a job in some sort of industry, which was how Dodi grew up there as one of the wacky teenagers that hung out around the respective mansions where john and george lived near each other in weybridge, and were regularly mobbed when they deigned to come outside to sign autographs.

Dodi happened to be one of the girls in those mobs. Like many of them she was an autograph hound. She got john and george's autographs on one of their albums. i think it was the help album; haven't seen it in a while so I can't be sure.

Years passed. Dodi's family moved back to the u.s, I met her in college and we married. I became a journalist. That was how it came to be that I had the opportunity to get Paul's signature on the album during a stretch when I was a film reviewer and went to a press junket to publicize the beatle movie  “Give My Regards to Broadstreet” in NYC. I took the HELP! Album with me and got Paul, who was there to talk to journalists to pump up the movie. (Another journalist gave me grief for asking for an autograph, which was unprofessional, but I didn't care.)

More years passed. Finally, a few years ago I got a friend to get ringo's signature on it when he appeared at a county fair here in florida.

The album is sealed in two-way glass and preserved.  It will be our daughter's when we are gone.

I've just always wanted to share that story. It  just touches me.

Mike M. That album is worth a forune. I am glad you own it. Sorry to hog up all the space recently. I just want everyone to know that your support is appreciated and my granddaughter still has a slim lead. Joe, don't beat yourself up. If the Dispatch does not recognize you as a customer they don't allow you to vote. Thanks for trying.

A nice thing; Rylee is being notified by her opponents that they voted for her. I think that is a nice gesture.
