I’m assuming the above post gives me at least as much hillbilly cred as J. D. Vance.

How aobut that moment when you are picking up a passneger at the airport, and you're in a hurry, and you need to run into the men's room, and you stand there realizing you are wearing your under shorts backward?

Is this an old age problem?

It read "I was making a joke".

please ignore that  - I can't figure out how to remove it.

is it just me or is this getting tedious?

This is an actual headline.

I mean where's the mystery in this? why are we still talking about it?

what else could it have been that hit him? killer doo-doo from a constipated bird?

Mary Margaret Clark (Schultheis)

Mike, we are still talking about this because the state run media will not let go of the fact that this was an attempted assasination of their most hated politician.

True or False

President Joe Biden tasked Kamala Harris with "stemming the flow of migration at the southern border" in March of 2021.

Kamala Harris backed and encouraged donaions to the Minnesota Freedom Fund during the BLM riots of 2020 which provided bail to free looters, arsonists and violent criminals

If you, or anyone, believe that first sentence written by Mary Margaret, you should seriously think about backing up, looking around for someone you really trust, to discuss your world view with.

While paranoia doesn't mean they aren't out to get you...as the old JOKE about rampant paranoia comically suggests...if you believe that CBS, NBC, ABC as corporations with packs of competing journalists would give in to state influence or directive in a capitalistic country, you haven't just drunk the tea, you made the tea, filled the pitcher, drained that thing dry.

It's just a news story that people who love and hate your guy seem interested in. We seem to love this crap.

Today's news of the unique arrest of two top family leaders of the Sinaloa cartel in Texas brings to mind an intersting issue. I am of the belief that one of the major factors in our southern border crisis is largely due to the simple fact that the poor poeple of Mexico are desperate to escape the vicious bullying they face from those cartels.

I acknowledge that there are other factors for some of the migrants, but I beleive that is the primary casue. You may have all seen news film of the well-equipped armys of the cartels. I have been loosely tracking a few headlines about this factor in the crisis.

Those guns are coming from Ameircan gun gun shops!

Why are we allowing this nighmare to exist?  Why are we the source of the nastiest part of the problem? Why are we supplying teh Cartels with the very thing that keeps them in power?

They use "Shills" to purchase the guns in shops from Texas and Arizona to Wisocnsin and Minnesota.

I have seen photos of trucks full of machne guns (even some  .50 caliber)  driving accross the border back into Mexico - with no questions asked.

Why on earth is this not even a part of the conversation?

(p.s. I am just lately seeing TV ads (CBS, I think) about a show featuring the crisis in Haiti, where the vast majority of the powerful gangs are being supplied with Ameican guns.         Again, why?)

Wow! When I wrote that post, I had not yet learned the fascinating detail about how the arrest in Texas today was set up. It was Joaquin Guzman Lopez, the financial brains of the Cartel and son of the captured leader  (El Chapo himself), who wanted to turn himself in, and lured the other guy - Ismael Zambada  - a co-founder of the cartel - into going with him, supposedly to check out an abandoned Mexican airstrip.

I bet we will hear more on this bizarre story.

Mary Clare Hummer (Bauer)

Tests?  On the Forum? On a Saturday? Sorry.  Not sorry.

TRUE OR FALSE

1. Immigration enforcement at our border ls the job of Homeland Security.

2. Harris's job regarding the border was to address the causes of our crisis as related to migration from Central & South America and to work with those countries to strengthen their borders and policies.

3. Many of the former president's executive order border policies were declared illegal or unconstitutional in the courts

4. The former president lobbied against & helped defeat the Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act which would have provided additional resources and personnel at the border.

5. Southern border migrant encounters dropped in June, 2024 to the lowest level since January, 2021.

6. The former president picked a running mate who wrote the Foreword to Project 2025. (Read it!!)

7. Not everything is a conspiracy.  Not everything is black & white.

8.  Kamala Harris never actually gave $$ to the Minnesota Freedom Fund.

9.  Sources of information are as important as the information.

10.  Democrats love the USA, too.

if you answered false to any of the above statements, not only is the Kool-aid dripping from your lips, it is flowing through your veins, straight to your heart, shutting off oxygen to your brain.

It's rare for a test to make me smile - well, unless it's from the occasional student who comes up with a funny response.

this test made me smile for an utterly different reason.

Thanks MC.

Well said, Mary Clare (or are you ready to be MC?).  I couldn’t have said it better (or even half as well). My personal favorite is #9 - more than anything, that explains why so many good and patriotic Americans believe really crazy things.

something to watch out for: fat-ass brains.

that's right. fatty deposits can invade your brain if you don't watch your fat intake.

Posting this because I knew you needed something else to worry about.

Being a fat ass is bad enough.

Being a fat head is worse.

The study by Borg and colleagues featured in this issue of The Journal of Physiology suggests that a high fat diet could quite literally leave you with ‘fat on the brain’ (). According to this research, an excess intake of dietary fat translates into increased lipid content of brain tissues, which is likely to have significant (and probably negative) consequences for brain function.

t diet can literally result in fat on (or rather in) the brain. Knowing what we do about the negative effects of increased lipid accumulation on the function of other tissues, it seems highly likely that accumulation of excess lipid in brain tissues will have negative effects on the many crucial regulatory systems of the brain. Following on from these findings, it will be important to move towards determining the full impact of lipid accumulation on brain function and investigating potential strategies for preventing and reversing this process.

Although I have not read that study I do have a few comments.

The normal brain itself is one of the fattiest organs in the human body being about 60 percent lipid in nature. I am unsure what the authors were including in their description of "excess fat".

Like all other organs the brain is perfused by blood vessels - arteries - which can become occluded (partially or completely) by atheromata - fatty deposits - which can cause damage to neurons. This can cause ischemia and even strokes just as the same process can cause angina or myocardial infarctions in the heart. The atheromatous plaques are well known to be related to "risk factors" such as genetics, elevated cholesterol and other lipids, hypertension, smoking, diet and other coexisting diseases.

Depending on where in the brain such vascular changes occur, I would suspect dementias and cognitive disorders could be worsened or result.

Certainly other organs can accumulate fat  - such as a "fatty liver" - which is outside of the blood vessels and in the organ substance itself - so I cannot rule out a similar process in the brain.

Jim

Thanks Jim.

For some reason I keep running into quirky physiology information and I appreciate your insights when I do.

I can't just work comments like "hey did you know your brain can easily process a mispelled word as long as the first and last letters are in the right place?" into a casual conversation.

Mary Margaret Clark (Schultheis)

Clare and I have never been on the same side of the political aisle. that is pretty clear. Having said that, I would like to clarify a couple of points on Kamala Harris. She did in fact promote and encourage thousands on her personal Twitter account to "chip in" to provide the bail for the BLM rioters arrested in the summer of 2020 in Minnesota. Without actually "donating" from her own bank account, she managed to help bring in over $40 million.

 https://x.com/KamalaHarris/status/1267555018128965643

She was assigned by Biden in June of 2021 to oversee the southern border to "stem the flow of immigration there", and yes, to tackle the "root causes of migration" from Central America. How successful was she if 7.2 million illegal border crossers have entered the U.S. from that date until now? Once these millions were allowed into the U.S., they were given iphones, placed on buses or airplanes and taken to hundreds of cities throughout the country on the taxpayer dime with little to no vetting of their previous backgrounds. They are now overcrowding our ER, taxing our healthcare, school system and housing.

https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-mayor-investigation-into-businesses-immigration-continues/W4OJQYSNUBF7JCMSD72VVQGN

The current wave of illegal crossings are persons coming from Haiti and Venezuela.....so who is tasked with finding the "root cause" of their migration?. Question....exactly who is paying for the Venezuelans to travel all the way to the the U.S.?

Since I appear to me the only opposing voice on the forum, I will take a backseat for awhile, sip on my Kool-Aid and turn my attention to watching the summer Olympics and rooting for my Yankees to take over first place again!

Mary Margaret Clark (Schultheis)

Sorry for breaking in on the forum, but I believe Mike's post with the one word "waves" was perhaps made as a correction to my last post, 2nd to last paragraph. But perhaps it was about something totally unrelated. By current "wave" of illegal crossings I left out that I was referencing the one recently reported in Reuters. If that was a poorly worded sentence, mea culpa. smiley.

Now back to my regular scheduled programming of the Olypmpics and the Yankees whose bats have come alive once again!

It's a compulsion, mm. I might as well be on crack. But I also thought some people would think I was waving at them, which made it even more suspenseful. this gives you a sense of just how exciting my life is these days.
