Stephen "Steve" L. Polis, 72, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on December 18, 2020. Born and raised in Columbus, Stephen is preceded in death by his parents Nicholas G. Polis and Josephine (Mosey) Polis. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Stroot; son-in-law, Thomas; granddaughters, Zoe and Pheobe; and step-granddaughters, Ashley, Hannah, and Rachael. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary King (Wayne), Joseph (Leah), JoAnn Sears (Daniel), Nikki, Rebecca Polis-Payne (Michael); and his many beloved nieces and nephews. Steve attended and graduated from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, Bishop Watterson High School, and The Ohio State University. From an early age, Steve exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit and amazing work ethic. He went into business with his brother Joe, initially delivering newspapers as kids, and working together at the 1190 Shop. Their partnership lasted a lifetime. The brothers later became realtors/brokers, and founded Polis & Simon Realtors in 1973. Together, they also owned and operated The Plugged Nickel on 3rd and Chestnut in downtown Columbus. Steve was a family man, a devout Catholic and a member of the Order of St. Sharbel. Above all, he was a man dedicated to relationships. He maintained close friendships with many elementary and high school classmates, as well as close contact with relatives and friends throughout Ohio, across the U.S., Lebanon and Greece. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, cooking family recipes, and dining with his "breakfast club" and "Lebanese night" friends. For the last 45 years, he brightened the Christmas season as Santa Claus, visiting the homes of family and friends with candy, gifts and holiday cheer. Going house to house, he would listen to the wishes and dreams of the children, then decades later their children, and for a few even their great grandchildren. Steve was a considerate man who gave selflessly to others. He was generous with his time, his resources, and his heart. He never forgot a face and rarely a name. He was exceptional at connecting people and bringing them together. From celebrations to times of sadness, Steve prioritized the importance of showing up, and simply being with the people he loved. Due to the limitations of COVID 19, his family will be planning a celebration of life to remember him in Spring 2021.
